After years of perfecting printing techniques and employing ever-advancing technology to provide customers with the highest quality printed apparel it seems all of our efforts are going to waste. Fashion can be a fickle mistress and it seems she is not averse to nostalgia as well. Apparently the ‘in’ crowd this year will be sporting t-shirts that look as if they have been worn for years and are decorated with faded graphics and cheap flaking inks. Somewhat ironically t-shirts that are a product of a past age are currently retailing for about twice the price of traditional garments, perhaps the industry has forgotten how to produce bad quality t-shirts.
And the trend is growing, with Fruit of the Loom’s annual ‘Creative Challenge’ design competition won by a vintage design. The scorched and printed piece won its designer, Serigrafia Pikasso of Spain, 10,000 Euro’s worth of business equipment.

Pikasso’s winning entry
This fashion swing does not mean that we will be rummaging around rubbish tips looking for our old discarded printing machines however. The current technology is adaptable and now high quality but cheap looking designs for t-shirts can be produced, with all of the fashion kudos and none of the drawbacks!

Whilst the infamous heiress Paris Hilton languishes in in America’s notorious jail system, reputedly with her own guard and a dispensation to wear a polka-dot jumpsuit in place of the traditional orange, the ‘Go Away Paris’ campaign gains momentum. In a move the woman famous for her fashion sense would no doubt find ironic (were she to be familiar with the concept) the campaign are selling t-shirts with three “Go Away Paris” motifs.

If you wish to create your own vitriolic message on a t-shirt, for Paris or that special someone, you can design your own at www.event-shirts.co.uk. Or in protest against the campaign you can even pen a message of support (can you make a better one than my effort above?).

As the green movement grows ever more powerful, attempting to save the future for our children, it seems that even schools can help – and not just by educating about the dangers of global warming. Apparently M&S and BHS are set to introduce school uniforms made using recycled plastic bottles, See the full story Here.

As if kids didn’t have enough to worry about, fitting in at school as a new year starts, imagine having these foisted upon you by an eco-conscious parent and being told to vehement protests “but it will help save the world”.
Rather than take the risk of your kids’ shirt melting in the sun as they play (not to mention being mercilessly teased), why not use shirts made using organic cotton? It will certainly prevent cries of “bottle boy” ringing around the playground.
