Thanks to @Boolbar for this weeks winning TweeShirt design. We asked people to tweet in a new years resolution so they would have a record of it on a printed t shirt for the year ahead.  The semi-serious aim of trying to help motivate people to uphold their new years resolutions quickly drifted away with this ‘Geek Sheek’ comedy entry however:

Boolbar tweeshirt

This made me laugh, and i’m sure it will delight other techies out there!

Whats your favourite techie t shirt slogan? Either leave us a comment or tweet it to us @clothes2order

We love t shirts, we print them every day with funny slogans, we see original promotional slogans, and at this time of year we get to print t shirts for christmas presents; so we know how entertaining t-shirts can be.

But what about out there in the wider world? We decided to look for where t shirts have made the news in the past couple of weeks, either through hilarity, controversy, or through sheer awesomeness (did I just make up a word there!)

1) Outrage over risque t shirt slogans on babies clothing range…..

Controversial baby print
This story is unbelievable, we’ve seen some controversial prints in our time but never like this on babies clothing! Do you think the campaigners need to get a sense of humour, or do you agree that prints like this on babies are a bit sick?

2) Evolution t shirts cause a stir…..

Evolution t shirt
Wear t shirts printed with images depicting evolution at your peril, at least in Missouri!

3) Getting nasty with t shirts can make the news….
Pray for Obama

Especially when the t-shirt’s are focussed on Barack Obama…. These Obama t shirts initially seem supportive, but when you read the Psalm they refer to it’s anything but. Don’t accidently buy this t shirt in support of the president – they’re actually wishing a whole host of nasty things befall him.

4) Disney have been advertising using a woman lifting her t shirt…

yes you did just read that right! Disney had an online advert showing a picture of a woman in a t shirt, asking users to click to reveal all. When users clicked, everything was blacked out and then they were quickly redirected to an ad for their new film ‘Adventureland’. The complaints flooded in and the advert has been removed. Censorship gone mad or should a company of Disneys stature steer cleat of such tactics?

This years war for the Christmas number one spot is hotting up already. The X Factor winner is a dead cert to occupy it yet again….. or are they?

There is a massive Facebook and Twitter movement encouraging people to boycott the X Factor winner and instead propel Rage Against the Machine to the top of the charts. So far it’s got 300,000 members, which is pretty impressive – If this sounds like your thing check out the group here

Although they’re making great progress, the fact is that last years X Factor Winner sold over 500,000 copies in her first week, so there is someway to go. So we’ve designed a t shirt for all you ragers and Cowell haters out there:

193 Rage Against the Machine Vs the X Factor Finalist... Show your support with a t shirt

You can buy your Rage against the machine for Christmas number one t shirt here . 10% of all sales on this t shirt will be donated to the official charity of the campaign, Shelter .

Love the X Factor and think all this camapigning is a load of nonsense? Why not design your own printed t shirt to support your favourite finalist?

……Who will you support?

Celebrities say the funniest things…..

It struck me that some celebrity quotes would make great printed t shirts, so we’ve decided to launch a new regular feature mocking up t shirts with our favourite topical quotes.

Todays Quote shirt has to be good old Arsene Wenger following his refusal to shake Mark Hughes’ hand last night.  When Wenger was questioned as to why he didn’t shake Hughes’ hand he replied… ‘I have no professional courtesy’. Now that strikes me as a great t-shirt for Tottenham fans, Manchester City fans or just anyone who isn’t too fond of Arsene:

You can buy this Arsene Wenger Quote T Shirt here from just £3.91 – Just add it to your account and follow the simple instructions.

We’re going to be on the look out for more quotes so would love to hear your suggestions – either leave us a comment with your ideas or tweet us @Clothes2order

Price Increase

We regret to announce that there will be a price increase on a number of styles effective from June 30th. The styles affected are certain product lines of Fruit of the loom, Stedman and Gildan. This is a result of these manufacturers putting their prices up to a level which we can no longer absorb without it having an impact on our own prices. The aforementioned manufacturers have announced these price increases as a consequence of the weakening of the pound against the Euro and the Dollar. Affected products will see an increase of approximately 5%.

Despite this small increase Clothes2order prices are as competitive as ever and remain fantastic value. We always endeavor to keep our prices as low as possible so as not to impact our customers, and will continue to do so in the future.

What is the Best Printing Method?

Many customers wonder exactly what method we use to print their custom t-shirt, and whether we use a specific printer for each individual order or have a ‘one printer fits all’ approach. There are several printing options available to custom clothing businesses such as ours and so we have listed a brief outline of each option and what they are best for so that you can gain a better insight into how your custom t-shirt is created.

Heat Transfer Printing:

Heat transfer printing takes a high resolution image and prints it onto a special transfer paper, which is then applied with a heat press. Transfer printing is great for coloured designs on white t-shirts but struggles with colours on a darker tone. Transfer printing can also fade over a longer period, which is why they are best used for garments with a short intended shelf life.

1 What is the Best Printing Method?

Pros:

  • Ideal for small quantities.

Cons:

  • Not as lasting as other methods and has a tendency to crack more often.
  • Can struggle to deal with certain colours on darker garments.

Best for:  Non-reusable white t-shirts that stand out at exhibitions.

Cad Cut (Vinyl Transfers):

Vinyl transfers embellish a garment by cutting shapes from a vinyl sheet and applying it with a heat press. This method is best used for small quantities of simple t-shirts, as while it provides a very high quality finish it is not as good as the DTG with logos but excels with lettering and bright contrasting colours.

11 What is the Best Printing Method?

Pros:

  • Provides a very high quality product.
  • Perfect for lettering and distinct contrasting colours.

Cons:

  • Not suitable for mass production of a design.

Best for: Bright, vibrant t-shirts with a personalised message like those you might order for a stag or hen trip or a colour alternative to transfer printed exhibition clothing.

Sublimation:

Sublimation dissipates ink through heating, as opposed to transfers which use paper. This means a finer control is possible but the final feel is very different of a traditional tee, in part because it demands the use of synthetic clothing. These factors mean sublimation is superb for an accurate reproduction of photographs on any garment.

12 What is the Best Printing Method?

Pros:

  • Great for printing a good quality picture, even with relatively low printer resolution.

Cons:

  • Feels very different as it is printed on synthetic clothing.

Best for: T-shirts with photographs reproduced on them, such as those for a family or friends.

DTG Printing:

Rather than transferring a design via paper a DTG (Direct To Garment) machine will print directly onto the garment, resulting in a fantastically high quality print and maximum detail. Top of the range machines allow full colour printing onto dark materials as well as the traditional plain whites.

13 What is the Best Printing Method?

Pros:

  • Ideal for small quantities.
  • Great for single- and multi-coloured prints.
  • Superior quality to all other printing methods.
  • Can print onto any colour of garment.

Cons:

  • Might not be economical for large bulk orders when compared with screen printing

Best for: Small to medium runs of work t-shirts and promotional t-shirts with either a complex or simple logo on any colour tee.

Screen Printing:

Screen printing applies colour with ink directly through a screen onto the garment. Screen printing is ideal for large quantities of printed garments but can be expensive for smaller orders requiring more than one colour.

14 What is the Best Printing Method?

Pros:

  • Ideal for massive quantity orders.
  • Provides superb quality t-shirts of any colour.
  • Can deal with complex multicoloured designs.

Cons:

  • Expensive for smaller orders.
  • Expensive for simple designs.
  • Poorer quality than DTG printing.

Best for: Huge orders with a complex logo on any colour t-shirt where cost is no concern.

Plastisol Transfer Printing:

Similar to screen printing in that the ink is used to create an image but this is printed onto a piece of transfer paper rather than directly onto the garment. The transfer paper can be stored and when ready is applied to the substrate with a heat press.

15 What is the Best Printing Method?

Pros:

  • Can be used with light or dark coloured garments.
  • Is ideal for medium to large print runs.
  • Can deal with complex multi-coloured designs easily.
  • Higher quality than other methods that use transfer paper.
  • Cheaper for medium to large runs than a screen printer.

Cons:

  • Cost is calculated per colour in the design, so it can be more expensive than DTG.
  • Lower quality than DTG.

Best for: Large orders of custom work uniforms, printed hi-vis workwear or promotional wear with a complex logo.

So which do we prefer? Here at Clothes2Order we actually use a combination of printing methods, choosing a printer depending on the design submitted and the size of the order. Our machine of choice is the top-of-the-range DTG model, which is used for all of our small to medium print runs with both simple and complex logos on any colour shirt. We tend to use a cad cut technique for single-colour orders as it can do this proficiently for any size of order at a better cost than the DTG. For medium to large orders of single- or multi-colour logos on any tee we use a plastisol transfer printer, or a screen printer for massive orders of the same nature.

Clothes2order has had a makeover. We felt it was time to say goodbye to the previous site and kick start a brand new era with a stylish design and the most user friendly interface possible. We listened to our customers to find out exactly what needed improving and we think we have managed to make it easier than ever to order personalised clothing; but please decide that for yourselves – we’d love to hear your feedback.

xmas lights Fashion designers do V&A Christmas treeIt may have come as a surprise to some, but a British fashion house, famous for its minimalist T-shirts, has designed the V&A’s Christmas tree this year.  Boudicca – the first British fashion house ever to be invited to become a guest member of Haute Couture in Paris – is the home of design partners Zowie Broach and Brian Kirby.  They chose the bittersweet Hans Christian Andersen story The Little Match Girl as their starting point and made the fairy on top of the tree into the little match girl herself, who received three visions before her final match, and her life, expired.  What makes the choice particularly appropriate is that the V&A is currently exhibiting fashion history in the landmark show ‘The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957’.
