Fun Promotional Clothing To Wear While Getting Fit

You may only think of promotional clothing as being ordinary shirts with the inevitable embroidery or printed logo. But promotional clothing also includes fun t-shirts and sweatshirts perfect for dancing and exercising. For example, t-shirts with the word “Zumba” are showing up around the globe from London to Miami.<>What’s Zumba? It’s a dance/exercise that blends aerobics and dance into a calorie burning routine. It was created by celebrity fitness trainer Alberto “Beto” Perez in Columbia. Now Zumba is a trademarked name for a dance based class that has elements of interval training, cardio, resistance training, salsa, meringue, hip-hop, flamenco, tango, and belly dancing. It is an energetic routine that is sure to burn calories while also giving participants a chance to enjoy learning some dance steps. People in Zumba classes smile a lot because it’s a fun way to exercise that makes people feel as if they are truly accomplishing something.
Zumba even has a slogan. It goes like this: Ditch the workout. Join the Party!” And that is why Zumba has been embraced by so many who were bored with the old routines of light weights and riding the elliptical machines. A class full of people wearing Zumba printed t-shirts is fun to watch. The exercisers claim that Zumba doesn’t feel like exercising at all. But despite the carefree atmosphere, Zumba classes offer serious exercise routines that work the whole body and provide cardio.
Zumba continues to grow in popularity and people who are fans of this style of exercising say it spoils you. That’s because Zumba is so much fun they say, that you don’t want to return to exercising without some dance and music. And the really good news is that Zumba has helped thousands of people lose weight who have had problems losing weight just through dieting or traditional exercise routines. Zumba, it seems, is here to stay because it has already been around almost 20 years and still going strong.
© Image by Rainer Topf, www.sxc.hu/

Angels on Promotional Clothing

During the 1990s promotional clothing not only promoted businesses. It also promoted angels. At one point, no matter where you went, you were sure to see angels. They were on clothing, book jackets, jewelry, decorator accessories, and restaurant walls. But like most trends, angels were replaced by new icons eventually. But were they?
It seems angels didn’t disappear. They just moved on to new promotional material. Where once you saw angels on mostly printed t-shirts, now you can see them self-help literature.
Angels seem to have become popular in the self-help genre of literature. Some of the recent publications include “Working With Angels” and “In the Arms of Angles.” But there are also books on angels that are not self-help. Take the book, “Angelology” for example. This is a book about bad and fallen angels who do not help anyone.
The book that uses fallen angels as the main theme was written by Danielle Trussoni. The book focuses on Nephilim mentioned in the Bible book Genesis. The Nephilim are the offspring of angels and humans which is an interesting concept. Of course, Trussoni takes creative license and gives the Nephilim an identity not based on anything except imagination. In her book, the Nephilim are iridescent monsters and not anything you would want serving as a guardian.
Angels have fascinated people for thousands of years. Angels are interesting characters because they can be guardians or avengers. The idea that each person has an angel watching over them is folklore that provides much comfort through life for many.
Angels may come and go in popularity, but you can find plenty of people who believe they exist even when not acknowledged. But what if they do exist…only because men and women believe? It’s an interesting idea to ponder.
© Image by Roma Flowers, www.sxc.hu/

Alexander McQueen T-Shirts Promote Charity

The designer Alexander McQueen took his own life this past February, and the fashion world went into mourning. Considered to be one of the finest and most talented designers in the industry, McQueen was sometimes edgy but always displayed his love of the theatrical.
Recently, commemorative t-shirts were created by through collaboration between HintMag and Christopher Lee Sauvé and Rachel Zoe-inspired "Bananas" tees. The tees are meant to honor the late designer with graphics that include his face overlaid on a mourning cross and surrounded by roses. The printed t-shirts serve a dual purpose though. They honor the designer but sales also support the designer’s favorite charity. Thirty (30) percent of each sale of the Long Live McQueen t-shirts will be donated to the HIV/AIDS charity named the Terrence Higgins Trust.
McQueen’s last collection was recently displayed at a Paris fashion show and the event did not get the usual fanfare that accompanies the displaying of new fashions. This show was somber to mark the passing of a fashion artist. McQueen’s last collection for Fall 2010 was inspired by the Old Masters painting. The clothes are made in autumn colors reminiscent of changing leaves and there is the familiar theatrical touch.
There has been much speculation as to who would replace McQueen but the Chief Executive Jonathan Akeroyd said, “We've been really focusing on this, on finishing the collection, we haven't been thinking beyond that. In the next few weeks, we are going to be working on the way ahead, but we've just really been concentrating on this presentation," he said.
Anyone who would like to show their sadness over the loss of one of fashion’s best designers would best do so by purchasing promotional clothing that supports his favorite charity.
© Image by Andrew Conn, www.sxc.hu/

Afghanistan Embroidered Shirts Not Like Promotional Clothing

When you put on one of the embroidered shirts that displays a company name and logo of the place where you work, chances are your thoughts are not on Afghanistan (unless you have a military member in your family). In Afghanistan, embroidery is intricate and detailed and often represents work completed by women struggling to overcome poverty, and a culture focused more on men, by running their own businesses. In the United States, working women are nothing unusual. In Afghanistan, working women represent a new class of women that are attempting to overcome great odds stacked against their success.
Women in Afghanistan are still fighting for equality in reality despite the existence of a progressive Afghan Constitution written as recently as 2004. It is clear though that the plight of rural women in the country will only be improved when the mindset of the men is changed.
The good news is there is a growing number of women in Afghanistan willing to try earning money on their own despite the difficulties they face. Recently, a conference was held in Kabul to address the hurdles women face. The conference was attended by Sima Samar, head of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission; Fatima Gailani of the Red Crescent; and Mahbuba Hoquqmal who is the former State Minister for Women’s Affairs. These women have headed an effort to assist Afghan women.
The budding women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan are getting help from the private sector. Many women in the country have been left poverty stricken or without a bread winning man in the house due to the war. The typical businesses being run by women are mostly involved in creating woven and embroidered goods. But the fact that the private sector sees a growth in businesses owned by women is taken as a good sign that progress is being made.
© Image by Yan Boechat, www.sxc.hu/

Consignment Divas in T-Shirts

Promotional clothing is so successful as an advertising medium that everyone is using them. In fact, the recession has forced many businesses to find ways to advertise inexpensively as part of their expense cutting plans, and printed t-shirts have proven to be a good choice. People enjoy promoting products and services they have spent money on and that turns the logo bearing shirts into walking advertisements.
Now the consignment shops are discovering that brand new t-shirts are selling like hotcakes when they are printed with the consignment theme. Consignment shops are taking on a new life as a result of the recession. In the United States, consignment shops have gone upscale often selling designer handbags and designer fashions for hundreds of dollars. Of course, the stores still offer plenty of reduced price gently used clothing, but the stores are now viewed as good sources of current fashions at reasonable prices. It is no wonder they are now selling new promotional clothing as a way to advertise.
A place named Collage located in Birmingham, Alabama is a great example of the use of promotional clothing. The owner of a chain of consignment stores decided to offer Consignment Diva t-shirts. The classy shirt come in a variety of colors and several different sayings and logos. In fact, shoppers can choose from among five different shirts, but one of the most popular shirts has been the one that simply says Consignment Diva.
For some consignment shoppers, the allure is the thrill of the hunt, so to speak. Finding the designer fashion that looks new but at one-third of the price is all part of the fun. So don’t be surprised when you see someone proudly wearing a t-shirt that proclaims she is a Consignment Diva.
© Image by Name Hidden, www.sxc.hu/

Olympics is a Haven for Promotional Clothing

You would be hard pressed to find one event that has more promotional clothing than at the Olympics. The 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada are in progress and team wear is noticeable no matter where you look. The embroidered shirts and logo laden shirts and jackets promote team sports, clothing brands, and of course, the nations participating in the sports. All the teams wear brightly colored clothing that binds the teams together visually and makes it easy for viewers to recognize their favorite sports participants when watching events from afar.
The use of logos is so apparent when pictures are posted of events. Just recently the front page of the sports section of the New York times showed the USA curling team and the coaches all dressed in red athletic shirts with brand logos and the letters “USA” clearly displayed. Turn to the inside and there is the South Korean figure skating coach wearing a logo zip-up athletic sweat suit jacket. There are skiers, ski jumpers, skaters and so many more athletes all wearing the appropriate promotional clothing.
Of course, some teams wear the required logo tops but showing underneath are brightly colored clothing pieces that are as lively as clothing can get. The USA ski boarding team uniforms are a good example with their loud plaids and designs that match the free willing spirit of these particular athletes.
The Olympics is a classic display of promotional clothing that proves fashion can play an important role as a unifier. That’s why so many businesses provide logo shirts and caps to employees as a component of a team building effort. So when you are looking for a way to unify a group of people, just think about the Olympics and the team clothing. You’ll get some great ideas when you do!
© Image by Stefano Barni, www.sxc.hu/

Eco-Friendly T-Shirts and Hoodies Give You Street Credibility

Promotional clothing is the new way to brand a company. Small businesses and large corporations benefit from a marketing strategy that promotes brand consciousness and loyalty. Promotional clothing branding also allows a business to reward current customers and draw in new customers with great gift items.
The key to any branding or marketing strategy is choosing the perfect promotional item to entice customers. The item must give customers and clients the right message and accurately represent the business. Image plays a big part in branding. In addition, the strategy must take into consideration what is important to the customer.
One hot topic for 2010 is the environment. Across the globe people are concerned about global warming and other environmental concerns. Many consumers want to know a company’s stand on environmental issues. So much so, that in 2010 businesses will benefit from promoting their ecological credentials.
Consumers want to ‘buy green’. Why not give a little green? Several businesses have stepped up to the plate and purchased printed t-shirts in eco-friendly cotton. This type of cotton is certified green from the product sourcing to the manufacturing. The dying processes and even the packaging and shipping processes are green. A business gains green credentials in the eyes of their customers when they give this type of shirt as a gift.
Early reports look promising says Jay Franks. “We call it ‘eco-sumerism’. Customers are getting a real gift. Eco products are relevant to today’s world and customers see it as more than a sales-pitch or an attempt to get them into the store. They are proud to wear the t-shirts and use the notepads.’
The trend toward green promotional products will not stop with 2010. Experts think it is here to stay and encourage promotional clothing distributers to add a line of green items to their line. T-shirts, hoodies, beanies, and other products popular with young adults and baby boomers will be a big hit when they go green.

From Tie-Dye to Vinyl – High Fashion T-Shirts

It is hard to trace the first T-shirt. However, 1959 marked the year that changed the t-shirt industry. The invention of a new ink – plastisol – opened the door for designs and screen-printing on t-shirts. Plastisol was resilient and had ‘give’. It gave the tee a comfortable fit.
The biggest trend in t-shirts came just after the invention of plastisol. Tie-dye processes on white cotton t-shirts was the most popular clothing item in the 1960’s. Today, the pendulum is swinging back toward screen-printing as a marketable method of creating promotional clothing.
The basis of the screen-printing process is separation of colors. Inks or plastisol pass through special screens. Each individual screen limits the amount of ink that appears on the tee. The screens also determine where the ink will go – the design pattern.
Water based inks are not as popular as they once were. Plastisol is now the ‘go to’ method for screen-printing for most promotional clothing companies. Plastisol allows the use of a broad range of vivid colors without the constant tweaks water-based inks need to reach the same intensity.
To keep up with high fashion trends many promotional clothing distributors offer special inks choices. Metallic inks, glitter inks, shimmer inks, and puff add a touch of fashion to t-shirts. One of the most sought after treatments for 2010 is a metallic foil combined with shimmery ink. Plastisol is applied to the t-shirt and the metallic inks reflect against it for a stunning effect.
Businesses have long sought screen-printing techniques for successful promotional campaigns. A simple 2-color logo t-shirt can represent a company and offer free advertising every time it is worn.
An expensive screen printing technique does automatically guarantee success. In fact, some businesses might benefit from a simple technique of t-shirt printing. The choice is dependent on the target market. A high-end target market will respond to more expensive screen-printing techniques and fashionable additions.
© Image by (Name Hidden), www.sxc.hu

Give It Away and They Will Come

Is it a good idea to give away free goods while still recovering from a recession? Many business owners have a hard time recognizing the fact that by giving away merchandise, particularly promotional clothing
that has residual advertising power, are worth more than money can buy.
As the country comes out of the recession businesses are hoping to increases their customer base. There is a big push in branding and consumer loyalty. What promotional clothing distributers know is that businesses who utilized the ‘give it away’ strategy during the recession are now doing better than ever – they are beating out their competition.
Other businesses have the opportunity to get in on this great selling technique, but only if they are willing to take the risk.

To gain a client’s trust you may have to offer something. Promotional clothing distributers are suggesting that something is a t-shirt. In addition, it is working. A potential client or a customer who receives a t-shirt is thrilled to get a gift. It encourages them to come back. This can eventually lead to the desired brand loyalty.
However, it does not stop with just one customer. A single t-shirt can reach hundreds of potential clients. If one customer wears a t-shirt to a store he may see fifty people who read the logo on his t-shirt. This is great advertising and one the best advertising strategies ever.
A business can ensure they have printed t-shirtsclients will want to wear when working with an experienced promotional clothing distributor. Fashion trends, target markets, and other factors are important considerations when designing a marketing strategy to help a business beat the post recession blues. Remember, the business that stands out from the crowd will be the ‘go to’ business for products and services.
© Image by Piotr Bizior, www.sxc.hu/

Insider Tips for Buying Promotional T-Shirts

Promotional wear, especially promotional t-shirts, are the most profitable way to brand a company. A small, self-owned business or a large corporation benefits from the advertising power available with promo wear.
The current favorite promotional clothing item with businesses worldwide is the t-shirt. However, there are many other options. Polo shirts, sweaters, hoodies, and more can be embroidered and screen printed with the same results as the popular tee.
Promotional clothing is primarily used as a gift. T-shirts and other items make fantastic give-away items. Customers love to get a free gift. What is more, the promo t-shirt is the gift that keeps on giving. If the customer likes the t-shirt, he will wear it and the company logo will be seen by a potentially limitless number of people – free advertising for the life of the t-shirt.
Any company can make promotional clothing a part of their business plan and advertising plan. Only a few of these companies will see results that go through the roof. For a marketing plan to succeed, there are several insider tricks that will help set a business on the right path: 1) Market research. It is necessary to know the market. Spend the money for a market research study; 2) Based on the market research choose promo clothing that reflects the target market. For example, today’s youth market is heading toward hoodies, young adults and baby boomers love t-shirts; 3) Do not waste a great opportunity. When giving a t-shirt away get potential client/customer information or feedback. Instruct staff members to deliver a condensed sales pitch or special message with every t-shirt they give away; and 4) Then, follow up. Take the contact information and use it to bring the potential client back in for another visit or to buy a product.
Promotional clothing, including printed or embroidered shirts,
ordered in bulk is heavily discounted. Many business owners implementing a promotional t-shirt give-away take advantage of this discount to purchase uniforms for their employees. The same t-shirts that are being used as promotional give-aways will make excellent tees for employees. In many cases, the popularity of the t-shirt will increase and make the give-away more valuable.
© Image by Dragan Sasic, www.sxc.hu/

Once a section of the city that employed 200,000 workers in the 1970s, it is now just a small version of that once thriving arena. Garment jobs have largely moved overseas where clothing can be made so much cheaper due to lower wages.
Bryant Park has been the spot for the invitation only annual Fashion Week for many years. Designers each year have models strut their newest brands and styles. Designer promotional clothing was always present as were odd styles that most people would not dare try wearing. But that didn’t stop thousands from attending the show annually.
After holding the show for so many years in the garment district, next year it moves to Lincoln Center. The reason for the move is due to a dispute between park management and the designers. The dispute has been ongoing for a long while, and with no resolution in sight, the show finally decided to change locations. There are many concerns that this move will destroy the image of the New York fashion industry as a collective unit.
Bryant Park is undergoing a radical change as the garment industry scatters. In the past, as the fashion show tents went up, people anticipated the new designs ranging from embroidered shirts to men’s suits. Holding a fashion show in a garment district only seemed to make sense. The annual show evolved over a period time because until 1991 the fashion shows were held in a number of smaller venues around the city. But once the designers came together top display creations at a single show, the number of tents grew and became symbolic of a thriving fashion industry.
Change is inevitable, but many in New York are saddened by the news that the Fashion Week will be leaving Bryant Park. It is the end of an era.
© Image by Dominik Golenia, www.sxc.hu/

Is a School Uniform Necessary?

Parents, administrators, students, and others involved in education have differing opinions on school uniforms. Some people think school uniforms serve a great purpose. Others feel that they should be outlawed. There are different schools of thought for the pros and the cons.
Pro school uniform advocates usually state rising grades, self-esteem, better behavior, less gang influence, fewer discipline referrals, and fewer cliques when describing the positives. There is data to back up each of these statements.
Schools who implement school uniforms immediately see big changes, primarily in behavior. Schools with a large gang population or a history of gangs see fewer signs of gangs in and around the school. Gang colors disappear. In addition, fights and verbal attacks are reduced. This is backed up by an amazing reduction in discipline referrals.
School uniforms also let a person express their personality. This is hard for some parents to grasp at first. When a student is keeping up with fashion, they are spending so much time trying to ‘look perfect’ and ‘fit in’ with the right clique they lose who they really are. A school uniform gives students the opportunity to discover their individual talents.
Self-esteem improves because of these positive school uniform influences. It cannot be stressed enough: Once a student is no longer in competition to be the best dressed or the worst dressed or the ‘punkest’, amazing things begin to happen. When students discover themselves their self-esteem increases and they are open to new educational experiences.
It follows that grades will improve. For many administrators, improved grades are the most important benefit. Gary Pauls is a high school principal. His district began implementing school uniforms 7 years ago in hopes of improving grades and student behavior. He recently commented on the policy. “For me it’s the grades. We have the lowest income students, but we have the 3rd highest state scores. This is the first time this has happened. We go from being 12th to 3rd. School uniforms played a big part in making this happen. And I don’t discount the way the kids behave. The kids aren’t out of class as much if they have it together.”
© Image by Sam LeVan, www.sxc.hu/

More Than a Uniform

Promotional clothing distributors working with a school have a great market. It is not just for school uniforms. Many different aspects of school life encourage tees, shorts, and sportswear.
Many promotional clothing
distributors made their first inroads to school administrators when selling P.E. kits. With today’s focus on school uniforms the relationships between distributors and administrators have become more secure. School uniform teams look to distributers to know what current trends to follow, fabric choices, and more.
The basic school uniform kit offered students is the school uniform and the P.E. kit combination. It includes the basics, everything a student will need on the first day of school. Other kits offer double slacks, double shorts, etc.
With the success of the basic school uniforms</a, promotional clothing distributors now have access to other venues within the school system. Fundraising is large part of any school. The distributor can discuss an annual t-shirt fundraiser with the president of the PTA. Together they could develop a special tee that was only available one time, through this special event.
Teachers and students love to accessorize and jackets are great for this purpose. Hoodies are popular with kids and young adults. A variety of hoodies with the school logo will make a great addition to the school bookstore and be profitable for the school and the promotional clothing distributor.
Other ‘extras’ are great. Sweaters are great for certain groups as are sweatshirts and other items. Afterschool activities might require apparel. The possibilities are extensive for the creative promo person!(c) Image by Tim & Annette www.sxc.hu/

Sales Go Up During the Recession

When one part of the globe goes into a recession, the rest will follow. Thankfully, the opposite is also true and it appears that the most recent economic downfall is now in an upswing. This is good news for everyone.
Promotional clothing companies fared very well either during these hard times or poorly. There was little in-between. Promotional clothing companies that offer great customer service and have the ability to show their customers the long term benefits of branding saw significant growth while others lost out on a potentially open market.
Businesses have come out of the recession with great marketing strategies thanks to the customer service and knowledge of promotional clothing companies. They developed tips and strategies they could implement during impossible times to generate customers and dollars for a low output of cash. Now, when times are not so dire, they have the option to continue using these successful strategies and build their bottom line.
The first hints of a recession send a business owner into panic mode. He will immediately begin slashing his budget. One of the first things to go – every time – is the advertising or marketing budget. This hurts promotional clothing distributors and can cause them to close their doors.
To stay on top of the situation forward thinking promoters took advantage of the recession to help their clients earn money. They showed their clients how, a) Their competition would not be advertising or not advertising as much, freeing up the market, and 2)To get cheap and effective marketing that really works.
For example, one distributer developed a plan with his clients as soon as he saw the economy dip. He went to each client and convinced them that even if they cut their marketing budget they should keep a small amount – enough for inexpensive promotional t-shirts or other items – to fill the marketplace.
Once the distributer and the client carry through on this plan, amazing things begin to happen. Customers begin to come in during the economic downturn. The ability to shop and get a freebie in one place is a winner – for everyone involved, the promotional clothing distributer, the business owner, and the customer.
© Image by Shlomit Wolf, www.sxc.hu/

Is the “Who Dat” Logo on T-Shirts Branded?

Located in New Orleans, Louisiana is the National Football team called the Saints. This year the Saints won the National Championship instilling a sense of pride in a city once ravaged by Hurricane Katrina flooding. The team has had difficulty over the years since its inception in 1966 but that was forgotten as it won its first Superbowl Championship recently.
The fans have a cheer they like to shout that’s been used since the 1980s. The cheer is “Who Dat?” It is a shortened version of chant that goes like this: Who dat sey dey gonna beat dem Saints. It’s local lingo and the shortened “Who Dat” appears on a variety of promotional clothing.
Recently, as more and more printed t-shirts and other clothing appeared, The National Football League (NFL) seemed to decide it owned the phrase “Who Dat” creating a real uproar in New Orleans and especially among fans. The fans are outraged, as a matter of fact, that the football league would try to tell them they can no longer use the phrase unless it’s on approved trademarked clothing. The team fans believed the phrase cannot be trademarked because it’s been in common usage for decades. The NFL sent cease and desist letters to t-shirt makers citing trademark infringement.
The disagreement over the printed t-shirts became so intense that the state’s highest legal authority, the Attorney General, had to get involved. It turns out the NFL was objecting to the use of the “Who Dat” slogan and the fleur-de-lis in conjunction with trademarked NFL team names and logos including the Saints. The solution became apparent at that point. The t-shirt sellers stopped making promotional clothing that included trademarked team names including the beloved official Saints.
The situation over the use of the NFL trademark team names and logos is a reminder of how important trademark protection is to businesses. And the NFL is a huge industry that will always address trademark infringements. In the end, the phrase “Who Dat” was determined to be public domain meaning anyone can say it and use it on promotional clothing as long as trademarked logos don’t appear with the phrase.
© Image by Jason Winkler, www.sxc.hu/

School Uniforms: Promotional Clothing Distributers versus Megastores

Buying habits are changing across the country. Small downtowns no longer exist. Malls are even passé in some areas. Outdoor strip malls anchored by a megastore are where people head to shop.
There are many reasons for these changes, with money ranking number one. Mega stores have the ability to price items at a discount. A big superstore can buy toilet paper in bulk and sell it at a very low price point. A mom and pop grocery store does not have the room to buy toilet paper in bulk and has to sell the same item at a higher price point.
However, just because a megastore can sell at a lower price does not mean they will. Many times a big store will draw customers in with low price household items and keep other goods at regular prices.
Several megastores now offer school uniforms at the beginning of the school year. There are several problems with this set up – especially the price. Because the school uniform is sold in a discount store parents will have the impression it is cheaper than uniforms offered elsewhere. This may or may not be true. However, parents must remember – they get what they pay for.
Quality control gets lost in shuffle when school uniforms enter the megastore framework. They are looking for a cheap product to sell at a low price point to beat the competition. To do this they will offer the basics such as pants, shirts, and skirts, in one lower-end fabric.
What do parents get from school uniform suppliers? Schools and promotional clothing distributers work to develop a comfortable a durable school uniform. It represents the school, stands up to many types of washing, and feels great the first time it is worn. The school logo is prominently featured on the uniform to encourage school pride and identity.
Parents may be concerned that a high-quality fabric choice and a better all around product will raise the price of the school uniform. It may. On the other hand, it may not. Remember that megastores are in the business to make money. They draw customers in with a deal but sell many items at normal prices.
When asked, most parents would choose a high –quality product over a low-end school uniform for their child. The durability makes the uniform worth a few extra dollars.
© Image by Gabriella Fabbri, www.sxc.hu/

Seasonal Promotions

A great way to add punch to a marketing campaign is to consider seasonal promotions. Successful businesses are experiencing great results when offering current customers and new prospects promotional items that concur with the season.
The majority of businesses can track when their sales are highest. If a business has a history of high sales in the summer, the summer months would be the perfect time to run a seasonal promotional. This type of promotional will remind people what is happening and generate a buzz about the business.
Experts say customers are currently responding to promotional clothing. This means they like getting free t-shirts and other gear. They see it as a gift and develop brand loyalty with the company.
Taking this information and pairing it with seasonal promotions can make a big impact. Then, go one-step farther and match the promotional gift with the season.
Let’s look at an example: A popular skateboard store sells more boards in the spring than any other time of year. People have been inside all year and want to get out and enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Knowing that this is their high season, the store can run a sales promotion during the first month of spring.
The sales promotion must be significant enough to make an impact on consumers. They are not going to come in for a change purse or develop brand loyalty over a pen. What do skateboarders love? They love t-shirts and t-shirts are perfect for spring. In order for the campaign to be successful, a promotional clothing distributer can create a great t-shirt with the store logo.
The store can use promotional items in many different ways. If they are sponsoring a big event, printed t-shirts make great prizes. They are the ultimate BOGO offer. Experience shows how successful tees are in developing brand loyalty – give it twice the power and pair it with a season!
© Image by Jennifer Newsted, www.sxc.hu/

Promotional Clothing Use Gets Wresting Referee in Trouble

You may not think of promotional clothing as something that can get you into trouble, but they can. Wrestling referee Earl Hebner found that out when he was fired from the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) in 2005 because he violated merchandising rights. Promotional clothing is considered to be so important to brand image that violations of its use can lead to serious consequences.
Hebner is no stranger to controversy. He is one of the most well known referees largely due to controversy. In 1988 Hebner made a call in a fight where André the Giant was pronounced a winner over Hulk Hogan for a WWF Championship title. Most people did not agree with the Hebner call. Then in 1997 Hebner made another questionable call during a main event of the 1997 Survivor Series. This call became known as the “Montreal Screwjob”. Fans have not forgotten this event over the years and the controversy has followed Hebner since then.
In fact, just last month Earl Hebner was introduced to a crowd of boxing fans in Manchester, England before an event. Because of the “Montreal Screwjob” incident in 1997, fans are still shouting, “You screwed Bret!” They are also still shouting “You stole t-shirts!” over his firing for violating WWE merchandising rights. The continued antagonism by fans over the use of printed t-shirts is somewhat surprising but it is just another layer on a history of refereeing that includes a number of questionable calls.
Boxing for entertainment as opposed to Olympic or professional style boxing is a lively bawdy event. Fans are noisy, enthusiastic, and always ready to express their opinions. The seats are filled with kids and adults and screaming is encouraged. Merchandising is a huge money generator and that’s why Hebner’s violations using promotional clothing were taken so seriously. He had to learn the hard way and now the fans won’t let him forget.
© Image by Gabriella Fabbri, www.sxc.hu/

Paris Show for Men's Fashions Includes Printed T-Shirts

The Paris fall fashion show for men included a lot of closely fitting jackets over equally close fitting pants or leggings. Reflecting a recession though, the colors were muted with dark flecked tweeds and black and grey fabrics. There were boots, sports inspired garments, ethnic influences, and business suits. The potpourri of designs and styles was well received though most were priced outside the range of the average shopper.
To be brutally honest too, many of the styles were simply impractical for the average shopper. You don’t see too many working class men wearing tights, vests, tall boots and jackets, and carrying a purse. Velvet waistcoats look great on young thin models, but the verdict is out as to how they would look on the overweight male working overtime.
What was interesting to note though, in a picture of a group of the models, is that some were wearing printed t-shirts. T-shirts simply go with everything these days including thousand dollar jackets with hoods. The printing on the t-shirts ranges from tie-dye to simple hearts but the very presence of the t-shirts in such a fashion show proves that the t-shirt is always going to be popping up as a fashion essential.
Of course, the printed t-shirts in the fashion show probably cost a fortune. But if you can’t afford the kinds of prices designers charge, you can certainly re-create the look. All you have to do is find a retailer that does t-shirt printing, add a long coat you buy at a reasonable priced retailer, borrow a man’s purse (if you know someone who actually carries one), and you have turned yourself into a male model. Printed t-shirts are fun to wear and can be paired with anything you like. So go ahead and pull those cardigans, coats, and hoodies out of the closet because they are back in style. Paris runways don’t have a thing over your wardrobe.
© Image by (Name Hidden), www.sxc.hu/

The Haiti disaster gripped the attention of the world like no disaster has in many years. The grim pictures of dusty victims trying to find food and water will never be forgotten. Clothes in tatters, children crying, voices of victims under buried under rubble, and tired searchers are all symbols of a disaster of untold proportions.
Covering this disaster were many news reporters from a number of television stations. The reporters were in the middle of the disaster and most were wearing dark t-shirts. What was interesting about the dark t-shirts is that they became almost like uniforms in a symbolic manner. Firefighters and rescue workers and doctors all wear uniforms of standard issue, but in the case of the reporters the uniform became a simple black or grey t-shirt. To Haitians devastated by the earthquake, anyone perceived to be in a uniform represented much-needed stability. So the reporters in their black shirts were appreciated as symbols of a Haiti still connected to the outside world.
For reporters used to wearing clothes that are fashionable, it was quite a change to be wearing snug fitting dark colored t-shirts. But it also symbolized for viewers that the days after the earthquake are not normal times. The plain t-shirts that became like uniforms in the weeks following the earthquake were practical to wear too. Haiti is in a tropical zone and the weather is hot. After the earthquake, the broken terrain and collapsed buildings meant reporters, rescue workers, and Haitians had to climb over rubble just to walk down a street. It was filthy there too thanks to the settling dust. Practical clothing was in order and there is nothing more practical than a t-shirt. There are no sleeves to get in the way; they are comfortable to wear; and they are easy to clean.
© Image by Banjo Ari, www.sxc.hu/

Size Matters: The Changing Sizes of School Uniforms

As children become heavier schools have to provide P.E. kits and school uniforms in larger sizes. The staggering trend of obese children has caused an upswing in large size promotional clothing.
As kids become tinier schools are faced with the same problem. The other end of the spectrum – teens suffering from bulimia and other conditions, is a very real issue faced by many high schools.
School uniforms made to fit either of these groups would not be a part of a typical school order. In fact, they would not be a traditional stock item for many promotional clothing distributors. However, with the growing number of children suffering from obesity and other health conditions changes are now being made.
Schools rightly feel that an overweight student who could not fit into a uniform would be at risk for losing self-esteem. Not only will the child stand out because of his weight, he will now not have same clothing as everyone else. One school asked that no school uniforms be worn until every student had all pieces of their uniform.
Promotional clothing distributers can get in front of this issue by recommending large sizes to clients. An astonished distributer reported one high school teacher urging the team to stay away from larger sizes. Not having big uniforms would encourage the ‘big kids’ to lose weight. Fortunately, she was in the minority and over-ruled.
Promotional clothing distributers must keep large and small sizes in stock. It is important that the items be there when they are needed. School uniform teams will appreciate a distributer who is aware of size issues and can talk intelligently about them. It might be something they have not considered.
Loyalty develops when schools recognize that distributers are making an effort to give them the best. Being proactive about rising issues, such as weight, is a great time to cement a new relationship with a school or build upon a developing one.

American football doesn’t get any better than Southeastern Conference (SEC) competitions in the minds of many sports fans. Games are always exciting and full of powerhouse plays that keep audiences entranced until the last minute of the fourth quarter.
A few weeks ago the big college national championship title contest was held between Alabama’s Crimson Tide and the Texas Longhorns at the Rose Bowl in California. The Tide was working on a perfect season. The team had won 12 regular season games and then the SEC championship game. All that was left was to beat the Longhorns and walk away with the National Championship trophy.
In Alabama, football promotional clothing is worn with pride. The Tide’s colors are white and crimson. T-shirts are emblazoned with Alabama or Roll-Tide-Roll. When the Crimson Tide won the National Championship title the shirts couldn’t be printed fast enough for a state full of adoring fans. Literally within hours of the win the Alabama shirts were sold out of shirts. The university sponsoring the team is located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and within a day there were 60,000 shirts sold.
Printed t-shirts, printed sweatshirts, printed hats, banners, flags, printed sweaters , billboards, and shop window signs all proclaimed the Tide had rolled over the Longhorns for a perfect 14-0 season.
The University of Alabama has waited since 1992 for another national championship win. Under the tutelage of Coach Nick Saban, the team performed in an outstanding manner. Now the question is: Can they do it again next football season? As Alabama fans proudly wear their printed tees and hoodies, you can see the glints in their eyes. Those glints reflect the secret desires for two national championship titles in a row. Can it be done? Roll! Tide! Roll!

Popularity of School Uniforms Growing in USA

The popularity of school uniforms continues to grow in the USA. Unlike European schools, uniforms have mostly been standard dress in the USA in private schools for many years. Increasingly public schools are adopting school uniforms as a way to control the type of clothing worn by children in addition to conveying proper standards of behavior. Around the world, school uniforms have been worn by public school children for decades, but this is a recently growing trend in the USA. As children, especially teens, push proper standards of dress, schools are tackling the problem by adopting uniforms.
For example, the Board of Education in Bridgeport, Connecticut voted to adopt the wearing of uniforms as a requirement for public school children in their district. This was enthusiastically endorsed by the parents who have been pushing for such a policy for a long time. One parent, Jeanette Estrella said, “I truly feel this bold positive change is what we need at these challenging times. Uniforms will prepare our students for the real world. When they dress accordingly they will act accordingly.”
Children have worn promotional clothing to athletic events in order to show team support. But school uniforms have a much more serious intent in mind. Parents and school officials believe that school uniforms will increase school respect, create a less distracting classroom environment, and increase safety. In addition, uniforms put an end to students showing up wearing baggy jeans, tight shirts, and sexy styles. As for safety, any student not wearing a uniform will be easily identifiable as not belonging in the school.
This trend towards the use of uniforms to instill more order and discipline in the schools is expected to grow. The uniforms normally consist of plain shirts and navy or tan pants but some schools simply limit the clothing to a specific set of styles. For example, a school may require a logo shirt but allow jeans or slacks. Schools adopting uniforms require a school logo to be imprinted on the shirt. The policy was not only approved by parents, but by students also. Wearing uniforms reduces the interest young people have in out-doing each other by wearing inappropriate and trendy clothing. As many students have already discovered, mornings are much simpler to handle when you know exactly what you will be wearing that day.
(c ) Image by www.hortongroup.com, www.sxc.hu/

Promotional Clothing Gets Small Businesses Attention!

Promotional printed t-shirts have the potential to place keep a company’s name and logo front and center in the markeplace. The right t-shirt printed with a stunning logo delivers the right message to the right people and can make a huge difference in the the ability of a small business to promote its products and services.
What makes a great promotional t-shirt? To create a t-shirt that makes people stop, stare, or want to wear you must consider the t-shirt and the t-shirt design and the logo location and style.

Before a successful t-shirt is ever designed a budget must be determined. If a small business overspends on its t-shirts it may not be there to enjoy the success of a successful promotional tee. A reasonable t-shirt budget includes the price the business is able to spend per t-shirt and the price for packaging and all othe expenses.
A business alse must decide on the quality of the t-shirt preferred. It is important to choose the highest quality cotton the business can afford. High quality cotton not only looks better – it is more durable and colorfast so it will look better for a longer period of time. Choose a style of tee that will look good on many different body shapes. For example, a fitted tee would not be a good choice because it is so limiting. Fortunately it's easy to make quantity discount orders online and get great quality.
A design must be determined also. Does the small business have a logo already or need to develop one? Do they want a short promotional message on the shirt,a business name, or a logo? Keep in mind that black and white are normally seen as boring unless they can be developed in a visually stunning way. Bright colors are the most attractive and serve as the ideal marketing tool.
After a design has been developed consider how it will look to the general public. Is it appealing? Does it stand out? Would you tell your friends about it? The most telling factor of successful promotional clothing designs is if people look at the fashion and then look again, or even better, ask, "What's that all about?"
© Image by Young Tran, www.sxc.hu/

Embroidered Shirts With Logos Have Long Been Popular

Using logos on business supplies and clothing has always been a way to build brand recognition. Almost all businesses from very small to giant corporations use and sell items imprinted with logos. For example, you can buy caps, purses, and clothes such as embroidered shirts carrying the company logo including the name. Whenever someone uses or wears the item, it is like getting ongoing free advertisement. Offering logo clothing has been a very popular strategy for a long time for keeping a business name in the forefront of people’s minds.
The recent economic downturn has affected most companies, but one of the hardest hit segments has been the restaurant industry. People often stop eating out when it's necessary to cut back on household expenses. After all, food can be cooked at home, and it often is, as a way to save immediate money when tightening the household budget. So the restaurants today are trying to deal with declining numbers of customers and eroding profits.
A popular idea that has taken root is to utilize creative marketing. Restaurant have had to came up with a variety of marketing strategies to keep customers coming. These strategies include offering cooking classes and giving away printed t-shirts displaying the restaurant logo.
Restaurants are having financial problems for more reasons than fewer customers. The price of food and supplies has been rising steadily making it even more difficult to compete. Also increasing rapidly are wages and energy rates. Wages have been stagnant due to the recession but that has not helped much because many restaurants are already working with reduced staff levels.
Brand recognition is an important concept no matter what business is involved. Getting people familiar with the restaurant logo is an important promotional step. Logo familiarity gives people a sense of confidence and trust that is important especially when spending scarce funds. When they do want to go out to eat, promotional activities can lead to people choosing one restaurant over another. Embroidering or printing the name of the business on the shirts of employees and on the give-away clothing sends a lasting advertising message.
(c ) Image by S.N., www.sxc.hu/

Promotional Clothing

Promotional clothing is experiencing a huge resurgence in the marketplace as an inexpensive and successful branding vehicle and as a part of many school uniforms. The economic downturn has forced people to look for ways to achieve their goals but at a lesser cost. Promotional clothing salespersons must continue to think outside traditional methods of marketing using new ideas stay on top and ahead of their competitors. What are some of the new and exciting ways to market promotional tees for the upcoming summer and fall months?
The approaching months will be filled be sporting events such as marathons, company baseball games, and neighborhood leagues. Many times these events do not provide any sort of uniform for participants – they are come as you are making it difficult to differentiate participants.
A look through one local paper listed a 'Charity Fun Run', a ‘Half Marathon’, and a 'Walk-a-Thon for Cancer’. These events would all benefit from promotional wear. T-shirts would motivate participants, unify the teams that are formed, and encourage everyone to do well to honor the sponsor.
Family reunions are big in early fall. Many families meet once a year when members from around the country gather in one central location. How exciting and memorable would it be for a family to have their own family reunion printed t-shirts? These tees would also be excellent help for organizations if the families held sporting events during their reunions. Businesses can sponsor family reunions too by giving away promotional clothing. When the family members return home to multiple states, the business is advertised coast to coast.
Finally, summer and early fall camps are another market for promotional tees. Kids go to camp for sports, arts, academics, computers, music, and much more. T-shirts, like with family reunions and sporting events, make a great remembrance and help to unify and motivate campers.
Camps, sporting events, and family reunions are held year round. Many sports camps are held during school breaks as are family reunions. Sporting events are held continuously throughout the year.
© Image by (Name Hidden), www.sxc.hu/

Air New Zealand Uniforms Raise Eyebrows

Uniforms are normally fairly sedate because they serve two purposes. The first purpose is to provide comfortable and practical clothing that is durable. The second purpose is to make it easy to identify a worker as being a representative of a particular business. Plenty of employees wear uniforms that also serve as promotional clothing.
Not all uniforms are sedate though as the new Air New Zealand uniforms prove. Designed for ground and cabin crews, the new uniforms include stripes, swirls, florals, and bright colors. The new styles were designed by Trelise Cooper and are to be first worn publicly when the airlines rolls out its new fleet of jets.
The response to the new uniforms has been mixed. Some people call them hideous while others, like the Germans, consider the clothing to be attractive. No one really goes overboard in their compliments though, but Air New Zealand doesn’t care. The company doesn’t care that so many New Zealanders oppose the new style or that the UK Daily Mail newspaper described the floral dress as one of the worst among airline uniforms.
One of the objections is the choice of colors. For example, there is a woman’s dress in a pink and black floral that many think is unattractive. Other colors include green aqua, and blue but most of the time these colors are used as dashes of color in the overall uniform scheme. There might be a bright aqua scarf matched with a dark suit or a green and black striped tie for men worn with a blue and white striped shirt.
As far as being promotional clothing, it is certainly doing its job. The new uniforms have gained the airlines plenty of attention. That is probably why the head of Air New Zealand, Rob Fyfe, is an unabashed supporter of the new style. The bright pink color used in some of the uniforms has been called more suitable for drag queen clothing. But Fyfe says, I have been proud to be able to find something pink to wear in my wardrobe every day this week, from ties to shirts to even underwear, believe it or not.” So this means the Air New Zealand uniforms are here to stay.
© Image by Peter Ismagilov, www.sxc.hu/

Organic Fashion Finally Begins to Take Root in US

The concept of organic based fashion and textiles have been ideas expanding rapidly in Europe, but haave been slow to take root in the United States. That could very well be changing as the agricultrual fields of organic cotton have continued to increase in terms of acreage. Just recently the annual total acreage planted with organic cotton has actually increased in the United States as reported by the Organic Trade Association. These are not the only changes that are being reported either.
Consumer demand for organic clothing is increasing all the time and the price of a pound of organic cotton has increased also. Rising prices for cotton has encouraged farmers to convert their fields to orgranic growing methods.
Eco-fashion has become more and more important in the UK and other European countries each year. The US has been much slower to adopt the concept of organic clothing, but the amount of organic cotton production and rising prices is proof the US is now on its way to catching. USA consumers have proven themselves to often be much slower at adopting environmentally protective shopping behaviors. But with additional education and a better understanding of how to market the organic cotton, the growth of the organic clothing industry is sure pick up seed.
The organic or eco-friendly clothing industry is expected to expand globally as consumers increase their demand for environmentally sound manufacturing processes which includes growing organic cotton. The organic clothing market will affect fashion from printed t-shirts to expense clothing. Organic cotton is grown without the use of chemicals typically found in pesticides and fertilizers. To be labelled as “organic”, the farmer must adhere to very strict US federal regulations that define everything from the kind of cotton seed planted to the farming practices used.
The growth of the amount of organic cotton acreage in the US was reported as increasing from 1,716 acres in 2007 to 2,590 acres in 2008. The US organic cotton production represents 2.1% of global production with 2009 numbers expected to continue the trend.
(c) Image by Sara Sandberg, www.sxc.hu/

The New Business Casual

When you hear “business casual” do you automatically think of an oxford and a nice pair of slacks or a skirt? In the past this has been the standard business casual uniform. Today, workers in the corporate world are finding they have many more options when the day calls for relaxed clothing.
Today’s business casual often includes t-shirts or polo shirts with a company logo. Ten years ago these items were reserved for the company softball team. Now promotional clothing is becoming de rigor for many workers.
Promotional clothing- t-shirts and polo shirts with a company logo- have several advantages that benefit both company owners and employees. Employees will find relaxed t-shirts and polo shirts very comfortable to wear and to work in as well as easy to care for. Casual Friday can turn into comfortable Friday.
Employees will also enjoy not having to think about what they will wear. Short of a uniform, promotional clothing makes choosing a work outfit very easy. Employers can make several different styles and colors available to fit different body types and personal preferences.
Employers and company owners reap big benefits from professional t-shirts and polo shirts. First, high quality promotional clothing presents a professional image. A company’s work force will look put together and make a great first impression. Different colors or styles can even be designated on behalf of certain departments or jobs for further identification and team building.
In addition, employers receive a large amount of advertising when their employees wear promotional clothing. They represent their company whenever they wear a t-shirt or polo shirt with the company’s logo. T-shirt printing helps brand the company by getting their name in the public eye.
Don’t do away with softball uniforms. Keep purchasing active wear for company teams. But, consider incorporating promotional clothing into other aspects of your organization for comfort, style, and branding.
(c) Image by Roger Kirby, www.sxc.hu/

A graduate of the University of Alabama, Seth Chapman, began his own business selling promotional clothing that is collegiately licensed. He graduated almost 25 years ago and since then has built a successful business selling athletic apparel. The recent win by the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team proved to be a real boon to his business even during a recession.
The clothing Chapman’s company produces is all sports team related. The printed t-shirts and sweatshirts are sold to a number of athletic clothing stores. They include the University of Alabama supply store and Hibbett Sports.
Alabama football fans have been flying high ever since their team won the National Championship title game at the Rose Bowl. Chapman has sold over 60,000 of the printed t-shirts commemorating the title win. This represented a 30 percent increase in sales for the year. With a recession just ending, the boost in sales was very welcomed.
Promotional clothing is always a big hit with sports fans. It’s reasonably priced and gives fans a chance to keep team spirit alive. Chapman has believed in the ability of the team to nab the national title ever since a new coach was hired in 2007. This year he saw the trophy was within reach and planned to be ready with plenty of promotional clothing pieces. Chapman started actually printing the shirts during the game and within 10 hours after the game ended he had 40,000 ready to sell.
Have you ever wondered what happens to shirts that get printed ahead of a game and the team doesn’t win? Usually they get donated to charity or thrift stores or are shipped overseas to poor nation. Of course one of the reasons Chapman has been s successful is because he has excellent business sense. He waited until the game was underway before starting the printing process. Chapman got a double thrill out this particular win though – as alumni and as a business owner.
© Image by Adrian Gtz, www.sxc.hu/
