The website Threadless.com. was launched in 2000 by the Chicago designers Jake Nickell and Jacob Dehart. The website holds a never-ending printed T-shirts competition where members vote on their favourite T-shirt designs each week and can choose from 600 submissions. The winning designs are printed and sold, and the winning designers receive cash and other prizes. The designs were initially printed onto Fruit of the Loom and American Apparel T-shirts, but the company is planning to develop their own brand of plain t-shirts on which to print the designs onto.
The website gives its members numerous opportunities that include a series of contests known as “Love’s Threadless.” For these contests members submit designs for themes such as films like The Science of Sleep and magazines like Wired. Most of the printed T-shirts are only available for a short period of time so you need to purchase them before they go out of stock. Threadless.com also offers children sized printed T-shirts as many children love to wear weirdly designed tees. The website also has pages with interviews with winning designers of the printed T-shirts as well as news and updates about the site. There are also pictures of celebrities that have been seen wearing Threadless.com shirts.
