The world of uniforms gets wider and more varied every day. Most workers who wear uniforms are doing so only because they are required by their employers. They get a lot of benefits from those uniforms though including comfort, affordability and styling, but now the foresters in Gujarat are donning odour free uniforms too.The foresters in Gujarat recently started wearing odour free uniforms that are ergonomically fitted. Why is the odour free quality so important? Gujarat foresters work in the Gir national park which is the last protected area for Asiatic lions. The new uniforms are khaki coloured to blend into the environment and the special materials are designed to give foresters relief from excessive sweating in the hot climate. Not only does that help keep them cooler, but the human odour level is minimised and that’s important when you are working around wild lions!
The uniforms were designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). The director of NIFT is Vishal Gupta who described the uniforms in the following way, “"A light khaki coloured uniform has been designed for the foresters which is odour-free due to an anti-microbial finish given to the garment for better comfort in summers. The outfit comes with accessories like ankle guard for protection from snake bites, ruksack for keeping daily required utilities, besides suggestions for a pair of good trekking shoes.. The Principals Secretary added, “The idea behind introducing new uniforms for rangers in GIR is to give a new look to our officers posted in a special area of the state. The new uniforms are part of a special package for them.".
It’s an interesting story. But let’s face it, aren’t you glad you don’t have to put on a uniform everyday that can protect you from lions and snakes?!
