If you’re a fan of the movies and happed to watch the Academy Awards, you may have spotted some men wearing full dress uniforms. Some people thought they looked more like military uniforms because they came replete with polished brass buttons and stripes on the sleeves. The waiters serving at the event wore a short white coat with blue lapels, brass buttons and white collar and black pants. Double stripes circled the bottom of each sleeve. Any man in the military would have looked splendid in this outfit at a military ball or special honors event. The uniform in question was specially designed for the Academy Awards Governors Ball. This is considered one of the fanciest events that are part of the Academy Awards, and let’s face it, this is always a fashion highlight event that attracts celebrities from around the world. In fact, winning best movie of the year was The King’s Speech about King George VI starring UK’s Colin Firth. It only makes sense that event organizers wanted the waiter uniforms to fit the occasion.
The interesting fact about uniforms is that are used at elegant events like the Governors Ball, but they are also the ideal clothing for warehouse workers too. Hotel maids, housekeepers, waitresses, delivery personnel, nurses and so many others are easily identified by the uniforms and promotional clothing they wear. The style of the uniforms depends on the type of work being done of course. UPS truck drivers wouldn’t want to wear the splendid waiter uniforms seen at the Academy Awards, but there are plenty of choices in styles and colours to suit every need.
It will be interesting to see what they come up with next year for waiter uniforms. Maybe Scottish kilts?
