Resort Collections Still Include T-Shirts!

At one time, the term ‘resort collection’ brought to mind wealthy customers packing their steamer trunks for long vacations on a cruise ship or a tropical island. These were the people who could afford to get out of the cold during winter by taking up temporary residence in a warmer climate. They ‘wintered’ in a place where coats and boots are not needed. T-shirts and polo shirts were required wear for these tropical uniforms that also included beachwear and t-strap dresses.

You can get those images out of your mind because resort collections are now considered to be merely new merchandise that anyone can wear. You don’t have to be wealthy anymore to take advantage of the resort collections. The collections are not just floaty dresses and Bermuda shorts either. They are designer collections introduced in between seasonal collections for the purpose of keeping consumers interested in spending money on new clothes.

Of course, you will still find printed t-shirts, polo shirts and bathing suits for sale, but keep looking and you’ll also find dresses, jackets, white shirts, trousers, skirts, hats and more. The clothes are designed to be worn at home as well as on a tropical island. Of course, if you live in a cold climate you might get a little chilly wearing shorts, but wouldn’t it be nice to think about summer when snow is on the ground? The answer must be “yes” given the popularity of the resort collections that have traditionally arrived in stores at Christmas. Resort collections now account for as much as 70 percent of department store designer collections.

One reason the clothes are popular is due to the fact they tend to be very practical. The designer shows held twice each year usually include a lot of odd clothes that the average consumer can’t wear. Resort collections are designer clothes and can be worn by the average person. It’s a win-win situation for all.
