Paul Massing, a resident of Amelia Island, Florida, USA, has allowed his painting, ‘The Buccaneer’ to be used on printed T-shirts for an upcoming Amelia Island Runner’s ‘Pirates on the Run Event’, which is held annually. Massing, a retired engineer, moved to Amelia Island after his retirement in 1994. He painted ‘The Buccaneer’ last year and displayed it in one of the town’s art galleries.Emylee McBearty, who works with Massing, decided that the painting would be a good image to use on the printed T-shirts they hand out to all the participants before the event begins. This is Massing’s first attempt at painting a pirate portrait. When asked how he came up with the idea, Massing said, “It was taken from a sketch from a Tuesday night portrait-drawing session here at the art association. The model was Patrick Howard. He was in costume.” The Art Association is where Massing and McBearty both work.
The man Massing was trying to portray was the famed pirate Luis Aury. He is famous for annexing Amelia Island to the Republic of Mexico for a short period of time in 1817. Massing has since painted other members of Aury’s family including his two brothers and an uncle.
Since printed T-shirts usually depict cartoon characters, photographs, and other pictures, these t-shirts have more sentimental value for those who will be wearing them because the image was created by someone they know. Amelia Island is a small resort town that has a long history that includes pirates, the birthplace of modern shipping, and much more. Having a t-shirt that symbolizes all of these things is a great way to kick of the ‘Pirates on the Run’ Event that will take place on February 17th.

Good all round. Will order again.
the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.
