The merchandise made by ICON Visuals includes printed T-shirts, hats, patches, and other items may seem to have a political message, but in reality most of the items are just really cool to look at. Owner Brad Jensen, who started screen-printing shirts while working in a clothing store during his high school years, is fine with all the publicity he has received. “I understand what people will think. That it’s political, subversive, representative of an all-seeing eye,” said Jenson. Many of Jensen’s designs contain what some people consider to be Masonic Symbols. But Jensen claims he just enjoys creating printed T-shirts and other items that have the symbols and nothing more. He is not trying to make a statement or help the Mason cause.
Even the name of his business was found by accident. Jensen was looking for a name in the dictionary that sounded strong and he stumbled upon the word icon. He felt the company had a chance with a name like that one. “You ever heard of ICON? No, you haven’t! I just made it up,” Jensen would say to friends.
Jensen’s printed T-shirts designs are inspired by many things in his life including BMX racing, which is one of Jensen’s favourite pastimes. In addition to racing, Jensen also likes to paint graffiti on abandoned buildings. He does not see this as vandalism, however. “I’m not out there trying to vandalise or destroy property value. There’s definitely a place for it,” said Jensen. He work can be seen in various places throughout his hometown.
But ICON is becoming more popular not only in Baton Rouge, Louisana, USA, where the company is based. Jensen recently sold t-shirts to store in Spain.
