Selling printed T-shirts seemed like the next logical step for Larry Jordan, who has spent his entire life in Watts, California, USA, after selling everything else from human hair to cookies. Growing up in this neighbourhood has not been easy for Jordan, or for the many others who survive by joining gangs and engaging in illegal activity. But Jordan managed to turn his life around and now he owns a small t-shirt souvenir shop.“People here want to feel proud about where they live, and that is what we try to do,” said Jordan about the community. Watts has a scattered history which involves two riots, the first in 1965, and the other in 1992. It was after the second riot that Jordan began selling printed T-shirts, some bearing the slogan, ‘I Survived the Riots’. Since then, he has expanded into selling t-shirts that represent his sense of pride in where he comes from.
Tourists from all over the world visit Jordan’s shop. “It's strange -- people from the Westside are afraid to come to Watts, and I have people coming from all over the world,” said Jordan. Many tourists are interested in seeing how the town got its reputation. Items bought in Jordan’s store are often purchased by Japanese businessmen who sell the items in their own stores back home. Many items including promotional Clothing, model cars, and hats are brought back to Japan.
After spending time in jail, Jordan cleaned himself up and become a legitimate businessman. "He has had his ups and downs, but he puts a statement on a T-shirt as part of an effort to show that the little people of Watts are struggling to be heard. We have issues of broken-down cars, leaking roofs and economic disparity, and some of us have functioning cars and good homes. We continue to survive,” said Tim Watkins, president of Watts Labor Community Action Committee.

the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.
Delighted with the results. Very popular so repeat orders very likely.
great service, no problems at all
