the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.

Embroidery and Text Messages

Monday 26th of March 2007 09:04:40 PM

Embroidery and Text MessagesBritish artist and radio talk show host, Tracy Moberly, has worked in many mediums including photography, metal working, weaving, embroidery, and now text messages. Having saved every text message she has ever received since 1998, Moberly has plenty to draw inspiration from. Her latest piece of art, is from Babyshambles front man, Pete Doherty. On a radio broadcast in December of 2003, Doherty tried to get Moberly to eat jellied eels, but was unsuccessful. “He [Doherty] was trying to teach me how to eat them, and to me it tasted like cold, wet, dead dog and I couldn't even hold them in my mouth,” said Moberly.

His text message, ‘Eels slip down a treat’ was the inspiration for Moberly’s latest embroidery project, which will be featured in one of her future exhibits.

“It's like they [text messages] are such a throwaway medium, but the words can be meaningful and deep,” said Moberly. But stitching the text messages has proven to be an arduous task. “They take hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours,” said Moberly. Since she is embroidering each letter, the project is going to take some time. Moberly plans on using many more text messages for her exhibit.

embroidery is painstaking work that takes not only time, but also a keen attention to detail. While most embroidery is done using a machine, those who hand embroider pictures and images are better able to capture more detail. Moberly, who lives on London’s East End, has been inspired by electronic media before and created other forms of art including sonogram canvases of audio diaries by politician Tony Benn.
