Bill Clinton Fundraises at New York Spinning Club

Friday 30th of March 2007 05:09:27 PM

Bill Clinton Fundraises at New York Spinning ClubEven though he didn’t exercise, former President Bill Clinton did talk considerably about his wife’s run for presidency and about health and fitness. Those who paid over two-thousand US dollars to ride on a stationary bike while listening to Clinton were able to ask questions and received long-sleeved printed T-shirts that said ‘Exercise your Vote’. While a spinning class is an unusual place for a fundraiser, the former president managed to raise US$70,000.

When speaking about his wife, Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton, the audience, which consisted of thirty-five women and five men, were allowed to ask questions. One of the participants asked why Senator Clinton couldn’t speak well in public. Bill Clinton replied, “I think she’s getting better. I think it takes a while in the campaign to get your sea legs. I told her she shouldn’t be in front of the podium when she’s giving a speech; she should get down and mingle in the crowd.” Senator Clinton’s demeanour at public speaking events has held her back when speaking to certain groups, but she does have the lead right now among democratic voters.

The audience at the fundraiser were very pleased with Bill Clinton’s speech and handling of questions. “He was incredible, he was engaging, exciting, warm, brilliant, phenomenal. It only gets you more excited to do more,” said Pam Bierman, a marketing manager from Pinebrook, N.J, USA.

Even though the spinning centre played Bill Clinton’s favourite songs during the workout session, he had already exercised that day, so he did not take part in the cycling portion of the class. All participants wore their printed T-shirts as a way to show unity and respect for the former president.
