With the help of the UK Wigans RL legends, the New Springs Legion Lions, a UK youth rugby team, will be playing their next game in Russia. Being able to be part of this exciting adventure has made the seventeen member team proud. Raising the money for travel and accommodations through car washes and other events, the team was still short on funds for the trip until the Legends stepped in by hosting a fundraising dinner."I read about them being invited to the tournament in Russia in the Evening Post and I just thought, being a Wigan lad who has been lucky enough to go abroad with Great Britain but not have to pay, I'd like to do something. This is a once in a lifetime trip for these youngsters but I can't thank enough those people who gave their time for free on Sunday, said fellow Wigans RL Legends team member, Andy Gregory.
As for the trip, the players will have to endure quite a plane ride. It's going to be a long flight but once we arrive I'm sure it's going to be non-stop fun. We're going to be on Kazan TV on May 4 at 7am. It's going to be a little bit difficult being so alert that early in the morning for the lads and myself, but I'm sure that when the cameras start rolling everyone will do a great job, said Mike Hale of the New Spring Legion Lions.
In addition to the help they received in raising the rest of the funds needed for the trip, a local embroidery company will be stitching new tracksuits, polo shirts, and other items the players will need.
