the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.

Direct-to-Garment Printers for Small Printing Businesses

Monday 14th of May 2007 09:26:27 PM

Direct-to-Garment Printers for Small Printing BusinessesThere have been many advances in t-shirt printing over the years in an effort to cut costs and build a steady client base. Direct-to-Garment printers allow small and large businesses the ability to print garments the same day by eliminating the need to ‘transfer’ images onto another surface. Instead, the image is printed directly onto the garment, which means more details from the image can be printed directly on to the shirt. “It’s such an improvement on the previous method of full-colour transfers. The old process was fine, but this is way better. It’s replacing the full photographic transfer process,” said Margaret Mckenzie, the owner of HiTec Screen Printing-Brazen Sportswear.

In an effort to become more environmentally friendly, many printing companies are adding Direct-to-Garment printers to their current equipment because they use less ink than traditional methods. Using water-based inks are also better for the environment. Since the machine can be used to print on many different types of fabrics, from printed T-shirts to handbags, small printing companies will be able to take orders of various sizes and be able to complete them in less time. Companies that couldn’t complete small runs of four or five shirts will now be able to without having to lose money on time and set-up costs.

While many companies including HiTec Screen Printing-Brazen Sportswear have not given up on their old screen-printing machines, incorporating Direct-to-Garment machines has been fairly painless. “We can print on anything the inks will adhere to and we’re exploring the process. We may include mouse pads and art prints. It means small teams and companies can have full colour on a short run, because the setup is more economical,” said Mckenzie.
