Is it really Possible for T-Shirts to Become Edible?

There has been recent speculation as to whether T-shirts are going to become edible or not. According to agricultural researchers, they have discovered a way which removes all toxic elements from the cotton seeds which are used to create clothes such as T-shirts. This is set to increase the demand for cotton and it provides innovations to T-shirt manufacturers.

The fact that the toxic elements can be removed from the cotton seeds has given experts hope into the fact that poor world countries may be able to use them as food. It is the toxic compound ‘Gossypol’ is what is removed from the cotton seeds and once they have been removed the cotton is completely edible.

It is thought that this new edible cotton will provide a high protein food for both animals and humans as the seeds contain over 20% protein. Unbelievably the cotton which is currently produced is said to be able to have enough protein in it to meet the dietary requirements of up to 500 million different people.

Organic cotton is in increasing demand so it is not entirely impossible to one day wake up and find edible T-shirts! However, it is unlikely that many people will want to eat their own T-shirts; it is just interesting that they can create such a strange invention. It is unknown as to whether the new T-shirts will be a big hit with the public, but it is looking like we won’t have to find out for a few years to come!
