the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.

Birth of a T-shirt Business

Monday 06th of August 2007 08:57:00 PM

Birth of a T-shirt BusinessWhen Greg Alterman began selling smiley face t-shirts out of the back of his car in the late 1980's, he didn't realize that someday he would become the owner of a successful printed T-shirts business. By the early 1990's, Alterman was looking for a way to break into the promotional Clothing market, but found the t-shirts manufactured by others were not suitable. "All of the [blank] T-shirts that were available back then were those huge, boxy, scratchy shirts. They were so heavy, just nothing that I would ever wear, so I ended up going through my closet and finding this one old T-shirt that I loved and going to [manufacturers] to find someone who could mimic that feel," said Alterman.

Created in 1996, his t-shirt printing company, Alternative, began to change the way t-shirts were produced by making them more form fitting and soft. Since then, the company has enjoyed much success in the promotional Clothing market and in the consumer market as well. "When we started in the business in 1996, people were wearing T-shirts to work out or lounge around in, but now they wear them to fine restaurants or wear them to work because they're so fashionable. The T-shirt is becoming the center of the wardrobe instead of being at the bottom of the drawer, and that has been cool to watch," said Alternatives chief operating officer, Evan Toporek.

In addition to selling blank t-shirts to promotional companies, Alternative also sells its own line of vintage t-shirts. As the popularity of the t-shirt continues to grow, so has the company's profits and world-wide appeal. The company’s third largest market is Japan.
