Computerised Embroidery Machines for Home Sewing

Even though embroidery techniques have been handed down from generation to generation, creating patterns is time consuming for most home sewers. But due to advances in technology, computerised embroidery programs have helped many recapture the lost art. Instead of spending hours hand stitching patterns, sewing and embroidery machines can be hooked up to home computers which automates the process resulting in completed work in minutes.

With this technology, most items including clothing, bedding curtains, tablecloths, and toys can become individual works of art in much less time than using traditional methods. Computer programs are used to send patterns to the machine which then recreates them on the fabric. While computer programs come with hundreds of designs, newer programs allow users to upload photos, images, and sketches to the computer and create a pattern for the embroidery machine to follow.

Most people use their machines for their own personal use by creating gifts for family and friends or embellishing home items, but some are taking advantage of their embroidery machines and creating customised items to sell.

Most embroidery machines that are used for home decoration and small businesses can cost as much as US$7,000. This includes the machine and computer programs. Some companies are offering a discount to those who have older machines that can be traded for newer models, however.
