the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.

T-shirt Designers of Kenya

Tuesday 07th of August 2007 03:30:40 AM

T-shirt Designers of KenyaThe art of t-shirt printing is becoming more popular in places like Kenya and other regions of Africa. As the demand for clothing that represents the person wearing it increases, so does the number of clothing designers who are learning screen-printing and other techniques in order to create unique shirts. "I want a Kenyan T-shirt. I want my own T-shirt. I want my face on the T-shirt'. People want that a lot," says local designer Ken Kamau about what his clients are looking for when they place an order for t-shirts.

But t-shirt printing is not as fast paced as it is in the USA, UK, or China. Because advanced technology is still unavailable in many regions of Africa, clothing designers create their shirts by hand, which takes time. "It takes two days to make one T-shirt besides the time taken to approve the final art work," said Kamau. Clients must be patient and expect to pay higher prices for handmade garments.

The price of original t-shirts has not deterred people from wanting to purchase them and there is no shortage of ideas when it comes to printed T-shirts. "I can wake up in the morning and be inspired by triangles or oranges. I'm allowed to mix colours and have fun while doing it and the end result can be for younger girls or middle-aged men. Everybody can wear them making the target market wide. However, it all boils down to how the work turns out," said designer Patricia Mbelba.

Once considered the uniform of rebels, printed T-shirts are now considered a fashion stable for every Kenyan's wardrobe.
