As printed T-shirts become more popular around the world, consumers are looking for looking not only for the latest colours, fabrics, and designs, but also the latest technologies. T-Qualizer, for instance, includes a sound-sensitive graphic equalizer that turns the shirt into an interactive experience. "Getting innovative with graphics or statements is one way to sell tees because they appeal to a young market. It's the youth who take these trends forward,” said Indian clothing merchandiser Manish Saksena.“The T-shirt is a garment that's fun to work on and that's why companies are getting innovative with it. For designers, a T-shirt is a canvas to showcase their creativity, and for the consumer, it's a personal style statement," said designer Anita Dongre.
Another trend in the printed T-shirts market is to use fabrics that are softer and thinner, which make it easier to layer. Fabrics that are environmentally safe are another growing trend. "I'm working on T-shirts using organic cotton and vegetable colours," said Dongre. Even though these types of t-shirts cost a lot more than other types of shirts, consumers are willing to pay for them.
One of the reasons for the increased popularity of printed T-shirts is the Internet. Those who have design ideas can very easily market them through a website or online store. But what is next for t-shirts? "One with active deodorant would be a great idea," said clothing designer Raj Shroff.
