the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.

T-shirt Printing Program Creates Jobs

Thursday 30th of August 2007 11:40:24 PM

T-shirt Printing Program Creates Jobst-shirt printing has become the livelihood of many artists, business people, and online entreprenures over the years because of the growing popularity of t-shirts. But one t-shirt printing program in Staten Island, New York, USA is not only filling this demand, it is also giving jobs to those who may not have been able to find one otherwise.

Special Tees, which was created in 1995 to help those with mental disabilities be able to support themselves, is more than just a work-program, it has grown into a legitimate business that employs over thirty people to run various machines and oversee production. “It saves the taxpayers money because you're not paying so many entitlements. And it keeps the mentally ill off the street and stable. The support that we provide is understanding what mental illness is about. But there's no treatment here at all. This is a workplace."” said founder, Tom Siniscalchi.

But building a successful business that also serves a public need did not happen right away. With grants from the city of New York, Siniscalchi had to learn the t-shirt printing business on his own. In its first year, Special Tees only earned US$22,000. As the years went by and the company began receiving more requests, its profits began to swell.

Employees who work at Special Tees have mental disabilities that range from post traumatic stress syndrome to depression and schizophrenia. Each employee works twenty-hours a week and earns a competitive wage. Siniscalchi has no worries about being able to give employees as much work as they need. "It's such an easy sell. If you're gonna buy T-shirts, you're coming here,” he said.
