Because of the success of online t-shirt printing companies that have successfully built a solid customer base over the years, many artists, clothing makers, and those wanting to make a profit selling unique and original clothing are investing time and resources into equipment, marketing, and production. While some have been successful, others have not."From day one we were thinking 'we design a T-shirt and someone buys it'. It's much more complicated,” said US based SprayGraphic co-owner Matt Krise. For the past two years, the company has been selling shirts and sweatshirts and is working toward being hired by UrbanOutfitters, a much larger clothing label that can distribute the clothing easily through any of their 195 locations around the US.
But landing this deal may not make the company successful just yet. Even with project sales of US$9,000 each month, the company will still have to struggle to regain their initial investment. Before launching a clothing business, owners should have a business plan, investment strategy, and have realistic expectations of yearly earning. While some companies thrive on the Internet, others see more return by selling items at trade shows, expos, or by opening small shops in their communities. Another consideration is the amount small business owners will make each month. This amount can fluctuate from month to month until the company is established.
