Three-years ago, Japanese clothing company, Kuchou-fuku, released a line of dress shirts that contained small rechargeable battery-powered fans sewn inside the shirts to help keep people cool during very hot days. They have been serving a steady, but small percentage of customers ever since. Many countries including Japan have been looking for ways to keep offices and other work environments cool without spending so much in energy costs. promotional Clothing that helps keep individuals cool when at work can help reduce the overall amounts of energy used because one shirt uses about one fiftieth of the energy used by a small sized air conditioner.
Shirts are available in ten colours and can be found on the Internet and in select stores and are comparable in price to higher end clothing in the marketplace. Those who work in factories have been buying the shirt so far, but other consumers are beginning to see their value.
The popularity of the shirts is still an issue, however. Even though they may keep the body from overheating, the air from the fans creates a balloon effect that makes people look larger than they actually are. “My daughter won't wear them because the shape is no good,” said CEO of the company, Hiroshi Ichigaya.
