The second annual ‘Fibre College’ weekend event will be held in Searsport, Maine, USA at the end of October with the aim of teaching people more about embroidery, knitting, quilting, spinning, and other needlework and yarn skills. Over forty classes will be taught by twenty-seven experts in their fields who want to educate and inspire more people to learn these valuable skills. Those who attend classes will also be able to purchase goods made by local artists and those who are teaching. Supplies and completed work are available. In addition to learning practical skills, participants will also learn the origins of different types of embroidery and needlework. Some of these techniques are used around the world, while others are not used as often anymore.
Teaching others more about textile and garment decoration can help people find new hobbies or learn a new skill they can use to open their own shops or websites. Since printed T-shirts have become so popular online, those who are experts in embroidery may be able to offer their services to those who are looking for unique garments and who want to wear clothing made by local artists.
