Hospital uniforms worn by physicians and nurses are often somewhat boring and intended to be functional outfits that are comfortable to be worn during the day under a variety of circumstance. Updating these uniforms and giving women more colour options has been the goal of television actresses playing nurses and doctors on television. It began with Peaches Uniforms, who signed a deal with actress Katherine Heigl, who starred in the American television show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ as a physician and was in the summer movie ‘Knocked Up’.“I have tremendous respect for women in the health care industry. I wanted to create a line of scrubs that would allow women to infuse some of their personality and style into their work apparel. When you feel good about how you look, you are more confident, more motivated, and it can lift your spirits,” Heigl said in a statement.
The uniforms will be available in four different colour schemes that allow nurses and physicians to choose clothing that best fits their personality. “When you hear the word scrubs, it automatically connotes boring and basic. We're trying to give our industry a step up. We thought she [Katerine Heigl] would be a great role model for the health care industry,” said Peaches Uniforms CEO Barry Rothschild.
Heigl signed a deal with the company and is allowed to make changes and add her input to all designs. The uniforms are not only more appealing to the eye, they are also functional with additional pockets to carry equipment, badges, and other items.
