In an effort to help raise money for breast cancer awareness, the Council of Fashion Designers of America created the ‘Fashion Targets Breast Cancer’ campaign 14 years ago and has helped to raise millions for cancer research. Clothing designer Ralph Lauren, who has designed clothing for the campaign before recently completed a new logo for a line of polo shirts that will be sold on retail site Net-a-Porter. Instead of the traditional pony, which is traditionally located on the chest, Lauren has created a bulls-eye.The embroidered polo-shirts, which are available in red, green, white, yellow, and blue, will be sold alongside other clothing from designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar De La Renta. All profits made from clothing sold for the campaign will be donated. “I am very honoured to have been part of FTBC's history and I hope we can continue to do great work,” said Lauren.
In the 14 years since the campaign was created, over US$40 million has been raised. Funds have been used in over 13 countries to help spread awareness, educate, and research possible cures. "Putting the initiative on our site can give it global exposure. The disease doesn't have geographical boundaries. So many times a little guilt comes with a fashion purchase - it's pleasure and guilt - but this is one purchase with no guilt. And it will be so cute next summer with your little white shorts,” said the founder of Net-a-Porter, Natalie Massenet.
