the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.

Popular Internet T-shirt Printing Company Opens Retail Store

Tuesday 30th of October 2007 08:46:35 PM

Popular Internet T-shirt Printing Company Opens Retail StoreAfter seven years of being in the online t-shirt printing business, the owners of Threadless have decided to open their first retail store in Chicago, Illinois, USA. But unlike other retail stores, they have a limited selection of printed T-shirts, usually no more than twenty designs at a time, and an upstairs that is used to teach classes or is used as a lounge for customers. If the concept works, the company is planning to open other stores that are similar.

Because Threadless prints t-shirts using designs that are submitted by artists, fans of the site, and others, each design is sold in a limited run online. The idea is that since some people don't want to wait for their shirt to arrive, they can go to the store and buy it.

"They have an interesting model. They are still playing in a space that's not heavily populated. There are certainly brands that offer customisation but certainly not on a mass level. One of the biggest questions that remains is can they attract new customers and is it online, in stores or both?" said Anne Brouwer, senior partner at McMillan Doolittle, a Chicago-based retail consultant.

But considering the amount of volume the company sells online, the revenue the make from the store does not have be nearly as much as other retailers. As long as the company has artists willing to sell their designs, the company will continue to make money online and off.

"Threadless is a business by accident. The reality is that the only thing that makes Threadless unique is the artists. If you take all that away, it'd just be a T-shirt with ink on it," said Jeffrey Kalmikoff, Threadless chief creative officer.
