The type of uniforms
that a company decides on depends on many factors. The type of work environment and work conditions have a lot to do with it. Security and professionalism also plays a part in choosing uniforms
. It's important to keep your employees in mind and how comfortable they will be when purchasing either promotional Clothing
or uniforms
. A Norwegian newspaper, Dagens Naeringsliv reported that an American employee of Norsk Hydro is suing the company due to being fired for wearing a T-shirt to work. He works at the Hydro Aluminum North America plant in Indiana. Jerry Josleyn states that he was unable to wear the company uniform due to his work conditions being unbearable. Due to excessive heat, he became dehydrated, started having body pain and was afraid that his health was declining. Jerry Josleyn is suing for discrimination because of his age and illness.
Mr. Joselyn did try to speak with his superiors about wearing a T-shirt but they never gave him a straight answer. However, he received two warnings before they fired him. Hydro feels that they took the necessary measures in warning Mr. Joselyn about his noncompliance with the company dress code and that he is not entitled to compensation.
Norsk Hydro requires their employees to wear long sleeve shirts for security reasons. They did not feel that the temperature was a factor in choosing the uniforms . If the court decides in favor of Joselyn, the company may have to rethink the uniforms they have selected for their employees.
