the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.

Embroidery More Popular Among Artists

Saturday 24th of November 2007 01:51:55 AM

Embroidery More Popular Among ArtistsYou wouldn’t think artists would start to express themselves with needle and thread but that is quite the opposite. It is now becoming more popular for artists to create dramatic and creative artwork with embroidery. The Associated Press has reported that the Museum of Arts & Design in New York has created a new exhibit for embroidery. You will be able to find artists’ artwork which is created with embroidery tools, needle and thread. This is no longer an old woman pastime. Edgy artists are now taking it over and doing things that older women would never dream of.

Featured on the article is an embroidered cloth by Angelo Filomeno of a skeleton with a red design coming from its eyes. These aren’t about flowers and pretty designs anymore; it’s about graphics and designs with pop culture themes. It’s not all about embroidery on cloth either. In an exhibit called “Pricked: Extreme Embroidery” an artist shaped doilies is such a way that it represented viruses such as HIV and Herpes. There is also a stuffed arm that had embroidery on it as if the arm was tattooed. Some artists have even stretched what can be used when embroidering by using human hair instead of thread. Embroidery has opened up a whole new world for artists and given them so much more tools.

It’s only recent that embroidery and the type of art that is being created will be recognized by fine art and galleries around the world. It really is just the beginning and as more artists discover this new way to express themselves, more artwork and creativity will emerge.
