Xiang embroidery is one of the most famous embellishments and an important piece of Chinese culture. Unfortunately, the art of Xiang embroidery is dying out and could become obsolete over time if something is not done. Fibre 2 Fashion reports Hunan Arts and Crafts Vocational College is starting a new classes offering lessons on how to do this exquisite embroidery style. The school hopes to bring back this cultural piece of art so the world can continue to appreciate its beauty. Students will learn how to stitch as well as the history of it. Xiang embroidery is comprised of many different forms of art. Students will need to learn seventy different types of stitches and the colours that Xiang embroidery uses in their images. Students will also have to learn calligraphy, the use of inscriptions in the images and painting.
With this new school, the Xiang embroidery industry can expect to have 100 new embroiders in two years time. In a few years, it is the school's hope they will be able to expand the industry and continue to provide beautiful Xiang embroidery across the globe.
