Lord’s is joining in the world of profitable promotional Clothing. The MCC which is based at Lord’s is planning to introduce goods including polo shirts and champagne that bear its logo. Soon the famous weather vane that is a symbol of cricket will be seen on polo shirts, sunscreen and a variety of non-cricket related goods. According to Keith Bradshaw, the club's secretary,: "If we do this properly we can create one of the world's leading brands. Designers have been into Lord's to see how we can maximise the potential of each brand." Great care is being taken to decide what types of items should bear the logo. The image of cricket will be upheld and the brand name of Lord’s will be honoured.
Money raised through the sale of the promotional items will be put to good use and used nationwide. The money will not be put back into the facility that is set to undergo an expensive renovation but rather the profits will go toward MCC’s Spirit of Cricket initiative which is aimed at encouraging schoolchildren to play cricket with the right spirit from the time they learn the game in primary school.
Cricket is a traditional sport of the United Kingdom that dates back to the 16th century. By the end of the 18th century, this bat and ball game was the national sport of England. It is for these reasons, as well as because of a genuine love of the game, that the MCC began the Spirit of Cricket Challenge and that the money earned will go toward supporting this initiative.
Some of the goods from this new venture will debut during cricket matches next year. If you are interested in cricket merchandise before that, T-shirts and other items are available on the Lord’s website.
