New Embroidery Machine for JK Clothing

Tuesday 15th of July 2008 06:44:49 AM

New Embroidery Machine for JK ClothingJK Clothing, a South Tyneside clothing manufacturer, has been awarded a £2,500 business development grant from South Tyneside Means Business. The clothing manufacturer provides school uniforms to hundreds of families in the region. Based in Ellison Street, Jarrow, the store supplies badged uniforms for sixteen schools in South Tyneside and basic clothing for all primary and secondary schools in the region.

Now that the firm has received the grant, the company is aspiring to help even more families with its improved service. The firm has remained a favourite with locals for two decades.

John Knowles, Founder and Director of JK Clothing said, "During the last four to five years the business has grown stronger and stronger. We feel that the grant is a reflection of the progress we've made. We're now in a position where we'd like to move the business further forward. We've invested the grant in a new embroidery machine that will help us to make more uniforms in-house. We're thrilled about this as it allows us to diversify the business. It's also a huge benefit for our customers, who will be able to get what they want faster."

JK Clothing was also able to expand and employ 5 more staff members along with the new embroidery machine. Mr. Knowles added, “A number of people recommended South Tyneside Means Business, and advised me to book an appointment with a business development officer at one of the Business Matters outlets. I'm pleased I took the advice. The support I've received from them has been great, and the grant application process was quite straightforward."

Coun Eddie McAtominey, lead member for jobs, enterprise and regeneration, said on behalf of South Tyneside Means Business: "This is a great example of how South Tyneside Means Business can work with a local business, not only to bolster that particular company, but also to benefit everyone. Community is at the heart of South Tyneside Means Business. We're delighted to see how our work with businesses like JK Clothing can help to make a difference."
