Theo Walcott says he is not fazed at the prospect and honour of wearing Thierry Henry’s old number 14 uniform shirt in the upcoming Premier League season. Instead, he has set his sights on emulating his predecessor by being a regular 20 goals a year striker.
There is much expected of Walcott in the 2008 to 2009 season after his impressive end to the season. It would seem that the pressure would be heightened by wearing Henry’s old number. However the former Southampton forward doesn’t believe it will. He said, "It's just a number in the end. It's just a number on the back of a shirt, that's what I think, anyway."
There are many who see Walcott’s future as a wide midfielder creating goals as he did so memorably in the Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool. However, he has said that he wants to be scoring plenty of goals himself as well.
According to Walcott, "In five years' time I want to be a regular for Arsenal and England, scoring 20 goals a season. That's a lot, but you have to set your sights high. I want to win the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup. That's the main thing, medals. People go on about money and contracts, but for me it's always going to be about the football."
One fan has said,” Believe it or not, what Walcott is saying is true and to prove it, he’s only getting £5,000 a match compared to Adebayo, he’s getting £60,000. Walcott is truly going to be the next Thierry Henry - but only one difference! - He’s going to be here for ever and be better than him. I hope to see Walcott in action a lot next season and also hope he is a regular first teamer.”
