To be more efective and have a greater industry impact, the Board of Trustees of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) and the Board of the Textile Institute (TI) have decided to merge their organisations. The Society and the Instititute are charitable organisations that pursue advances in science and technology. The Textile Instititute plays an important role in the development and retailing of all types of textiles including clothing with clothing categories including high couture fashion, leisurely clothing and work and school clothing including uniforms. The textile industry is rapidly changing as a result of globalization. SCI is an international organisation already which means the merger will enable TI to preserve its “qualifying body” status. SCI is a society dedicated to merging science and business to create practical solutions and consumer textile needs. SCI is focused on commercial applications of science.
The two organizations have agreed to merge as outlined in a “Term Sheet” documentation in order to make both stronger influences in the development and manufacturing of textiles and other goods that benefit consumers. Each organization will preserve their unique identity after the merger.
SCI’s chief executive, Andrew Ladds said, “The proposed merger is a unique opportunity to combine the individual strengths and experiences of each organisation and strengthen both The TI and SCI to safeguard and enhance the future of The TI worldwide, whilst raising the profile of both organisations. Both have similar objectives, cultures and methods of sharing knowledge. Much of SCI’s international membership and target audience is similar to that of The TI and much of SCI’s chemical science and technology knowledge which sustains the textiles industry will form a knowledge platform between the two organisations.”
The goal of the merger is to capitalise on the strengths of each organisation for the benefit of the consumer and the textile industry.
