Correctional Deputy Joe Engesser, who works at Dakota County jail guarding criminals, spends his free time creating cartoon strips. He has had his comic strips sold to various publications across the county in magazines such as Better Homes and Woman's World. Engesser has also had his work hung in the Charles Schulz museum in the town of Santa Rosa in California, in the Peanuts memorial exhibition.
Joe Engesser also sells printed T-shirts with a cartoon Packers fan on his website www.CheeseBob.com. Engesser's work is also hung in the jailbreak room in Hastings prison and is published in the Dakota County sheriff’s weekly newsletter.
The cartoon artist says he has always known that he wanted to be a cartoonist since he saw his first peanuts book. He owns over 100 copies of the peanuts books created by Charles Schultz. He does not come from an artistic background, he obtained a degree in commercial art at Iowa Lakes Community College but he used to freelance in the West Publishing art department.
Engesser bases some of his cartoons on the inmates he works with and finds their behaviours excellent fodder for strips. He spends most of his free time away from the prison working on his strips for publication and his printed T-shirts website. He lives on a farm with his wife and three sons.
Engesser was offered a job promotion recently but turned it down as he felt that it would interfere with his cartooning. He said "You're really at peace when you find what you're supposed to be doing, If you were to say to me, what's your goal? I'd say, “I’m kind of living it right now.” His wife helps takes care of the business side of his cartoon work and is very supportive.

the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.
Delighted with the results. Very popular so repeat orders very likely.
great service, no problems at all
