The recent economic downturn has affected most companies, but one of the hardest hit segments has been the restaurant industry. People often stop eating out when it's necessary to cut back on household expenses. After all, food can be cooked at home, and it often is, as a way to save immediate money when tightening the household budget. So the restaurants today are trying to deal with declining numbers of customers and eroding profits.
A popular idea that has taken root is to utilize creative marketing. Restaurant have had to came up with a variety of marketing strategies to keep customers coming. These strategies include offering cooking classes and giving away printed t-shirts displaying the restaurant logo.
Restaurants are having financial problems for more reasons than fewer customers. The price of food and supplies has been rising steadily making it even more difficult to compete. Also increasing rapidly are wages and energy rates. Wages have been stagnant due to the recession but that has not helped much because many restaurants are already working with reduced staff levels.
Brand recognition is an important concept no matter what business is involved. Getting people familiar with the restaurant logo is an important promotional step. Logo familiarity gives people a sense of confidence and trust that is important especially when spending scarce funds. When they do want to go out to eat, promotional activities can lead to people choosing one restaurant over another. Embroidering or printing the name of the business on the shirts of employees and on the give-away clothing sends a lasting advertising message.
