Uniforms are worn by people working in a variety of industries including the health care and airline industries. The embroidered shirts indicating names or company logos make it easy for customers to recognize staff members. In the airlines industry, uniforms have been standard wear since the first commercial flights left the ground.Older uniforms weren’t nearly as stylish as the ones worn today though. The newest airline uniforms are contemporary and practical and bear little resemblance to the uniforms worn years ago. KLM is the latest airlines to make changes to the women’s uniforms in order to update the style. KLM has recently announced a new ladies’ uniform will be worn by the women employees making up the cabin and ground crews. That means over 11,000 women will be wearing the fashionable uniforms which are blue to reflect KLM’s colour.
The KLM President and CEO is Peter Harman and he had this comment to make about the new uniforms: “By making this investment under the prevailing economic circumstances, we underscore our faith in the future and in the KLM brand.” With airlines under siege due to the economic crisis gripping the world, this is an encouraging and bold statement.
The new uniforms are designed to be functional and yet reflect fashionable styles. The uniforms were designed by Mart Visser and carry his signature styling. The new style will be presented to the world in October 2009 and staff will begin wearing it on the job by April 2010. The designer said, “The great thing about my design is that it will contribute to the wearer’s sense of pride and pleasure. This will have a positive effect on passengers travelling with KLM, which is exactly what we hope to achieve.” Uniforms are not just practical. They promote the image of the company.
