There is a lot of focus in the textile industry on creating various performance materials for active wear clothing. The wicking materials that have been introduced into all types of clothing including t-shirts and uniforms has led to more comfortable clothing that keeps the body dry even during heavy periods of exercise or effort. Athletes from all sports now wear clothes made from performance materials. You are just as likely to see golfers in performance shirts as you are tennis players. The materials are also popular with workers in hot climate who sweat a lot during the day as they perform job duties. There are a number of technologies in the market now such as TransDRY created by Cotton Incorporated, USA . But no matter which technology is used the performance clothing offers certain benefits for work wear, and athletic and recreational activities. The TransDRY technology is one of the first to be applied to cotton wear though enabling cotton to be turned into a performance fiber. Now being used in knit t-shirts, underwear, and work clothing, the material wicks away moisture and is comfortable to wear. Clothes will not cling to the body when wet. Other benefits of the new performance materials include the ability of the clothes to dry quickly, the fact it washes well, the way it works to transfer moisture away from body while active, and its continuing wicking action even after activity ends.
The Hermann Buehler AG has created a new yarn using this latest version of performance material technology. Called SwissCotton BeDry, it is being used in a variety of textiles in the clothing industry.
The increase in the use of wicking materials is expected to continue as textile researchers experiment with new cotton blends. The new yarn is currently made using Supima cotton.
