The new 2010 Olympic torch bearer uniforms have been unveiled along with the Olympic torch design. The style of both includes clean lines that reflect the lines left in the snow by athletes competing in the winter sports. You can imagine, for example, the snow skiers flying down the mountainside leaving ski trails. The white colour reminds you of snow and cold crisp Canadian winter days. The torch will be carried by the Olympic torch bearers wearing the promotional clothing beginning October 30, 2009 until February 12, 2010 where the flame will be ignited at the start of the winter games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The uniforms and torch were presented to the public by International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge and other dignitaries, along with the first two torch carriers.
The Olympic torchbearer uniforms were designed by the popular and almost iconic Hudson’s Bay Company, a company begun and operated in Canada. Hudson’s Bay Company is a Vancouver 2010 National Partner and taking an active role in the success of the upcoming games. There is probably no other company more qualified to design uniforms which reflect the beauty and potential of Canada and its wealth of natural resources. The large amount of white in the uniforms may remind you of snow, but the colour choice is meant to also reflect peace and hope. Other colours found in the uniforms include blues and greens which also reflect the Canadian natural landscape.
The stylish uniforms include full attire with pants, jacket, toque, pullover and mittens. The sight of the torch bearing runners always brings a thrill of excitement, because it means the world’s best athletes are making final preparations to attend the global event where new records of human performance are always set. The uniforms worn by the torchbearers are the first glimpse the world gets of the many different uniforms that will mark a coming together of nations in a peaceful and impressive contest.
