Most people are aware of clothing such as that made by the Yves Saint Laurent company with its prominently displayed logo initials. The shirts and dresses made with the obvious logos mix fashion and promotion in a stylish manner. But the bottom line is that fashion is morphed into promotional clothing when the company or designer name or initials are so prominent.Sometimes promotional clothing screams the designer’s name through style alone. At Fashion Week events held around the world there are fascinating displays of unusual and eye catching fashions that screamed Prada and Cavalli. There are garter belts made of leather, zippered leather boots, knee socks, and shimmering frocks to name just a few stunning fashions and accessories. One of the most apparent facts about these shows is that the fashion presentations were not romantic or light hearted. Instead they were aggressive and determined reflecting difficult economic times.
The catwalk at the Fashion Week included boots and female gladiators. The fashions were a vampy sbudued. Fashions included embroidered brocades, fur, lace, and military jackets. In fact, it seems there were no limits to the kinds of fashions which were presented.
The many different fashions did include more than skimpy or aggressive styles though. There were flowing dresses and lacy blouses. The idea of promotional clothing is not new to the fashion world, though many designers use a fashion feature which is subtler than an initial. For example, there may be a certain print or accessory always included in a design.
Fashion Week includes many of the world’s most famous designers such as Versace and Dolce. This show does not include fashions seen on the average consumer as they are presented on the catwalk, but they affect styles and colours for everything from trouser to printed t-shirts to dresses that are sold in department stores around the world.
