When buying solid practical work wear, including uniforms, it's easy to know you are buying the "real thing" when you choose a reliable website operated by a company with a history in selling that particular type of clothing. But when you are looking for clothing or makeup or other products that are one-of-a-kind or carry a particular brand name or is authentic, it's important to understand how to shop online. There are many fakes offered for sale that regularly fool consumers. But the industry giant L'Oreal sells beauty products around the world including women's makeup and hair care solutions. Recently the make-up company has begun a campaign to put an end to companies and individuals selling fake versions of its popular product lines.
L'Oreal is a French company that has instituted a multi-pronged pursuit of the eBay company claiming it allows fake products to be sold. L'Oreal has files legal proceedings against eBay in the UK and four other European countries. The cosmetic giant wants the fakes removed, but eBay claims it is a trading platform and not responsible for determining which products are fake and which are real. L'Oreal lost similar suits in Belgium and the US, but that has not slowed the company down as it attempts to protect its brand.
Counterfeit products offered for sale on the internet are an ongoing problem. The reactions to brand protection suits against eBay have been mixed. LVMH won a similar suit against eBay in France. On the other hand, Tiffany's & Co. lost its counterfeit suit against eBay in the US. In Brussels, the court ruled in favor of eBay and told the online auction company it does not have to monitor the authenticity of products consumers buy and sell.
