New US Air Combat Uniforms DevelopedA lot of people wear uniforms including hotel workers, restaurant servers, and students. But some uniforms hold very special meaning and require features that other uniform wearers would not need. Military uniforms are much more than just clothing, because they are also designed to protect the wearer as much as possible while performing military duties. This means the uniform must provide a high level of safety for the military personnel because of their exposure to chemicals, fire, and electrical components subject.

The US Air Combat Uniform is a perfect example of clothing serving multiple purposes. The company DRIFIRE works with the US Navy and Air Force to develop uniforms with the special safety features needed to protect military personnel. The company has developed the first uniforms which do not require meta-aramid material which is what is commonly used right now in military uniforms. Meta-aramid material is experiencing a shortage and DRIFIRE has responded by developing a high performance blend fabric which improves on the meta-aramid fabric. The DRIFIRE material has optimized wicking ability and provides additional protection for the men and women working in volatile situations. An antistatic carbon fiber was added to the uniform material to reduce the chances of sparking a fire.

The flame resistant uniforms are also comfortable to wear during the most active maneuvers and are designed to be durable, breathable, and well fitting. A DRIFIRE company representative was quoted as saying, “Reliable sources within the U.S. military have sited backlog order numbers in the tens of thousands of units for the meta-aramid-style Air Combat Uniform and flight suit garments. But even if the meta-aramid product were not in short supply, our DRIFIRE innovation represents the most significant improvement in overall performance clothing protection since standards were first set for these garments in the 1960s.”
