Country music artists are often thought of as wearing cowboy outfits or adorning a western look but lately musicians have developed a more retro look by wearing modern clothes with bold patterns and wearing of embroidered T-shirts. The Garth Brooks era of country music was the point of change for county artists, with the change of music and the clothing artists wore. Brooks had his own line of shirts designed in bright blocks of color, which was copied by many artists. Shania Twain also changed country music in an impressive way. She wore skintight clothing and messy hair thus started a new trend within country music.
Some elements of the old country and western wear still remain mixed into the newer look in country artists' fashion. Many pieces of clothing like embroidered T-shirts are designed with modern images of embroidery. Jeans are often flared and complete with the faded wash look. Stitching on the jeans are also a very important part of the look and the location of the pockets. Wranglers jeans have created a new look for their jeans that favor a more washed look with rips. "We take the product to a level where it can be sold at retail, but I think artists take it a step further by ripping holes in them and so on," said special events marketing manager for Wrangler Edyie Bryant "They try different things until they find their own little niche that they think will appeal to their consumer base.”
Some artists still prefer the traditional look such as Strait. Nevertheless, many country musicians have gone with the modern flow and chosen the pop look with modern embroidered T-shirts and fancy jeans. It will be interesting to see how country artists clothing has changed in fifty years time and what style they will have chosen.
