Promotional clothing is becoming a fast growing market niche as companies are looking to become branded in the public eye. Branding gives a company instant recognition, usually through a unique logo or catch phrase. The hope is that clothing with a company’s logo will get their logo in front of consumers.
Many t-shirt companies offer silk screening and embroidering services. T-shirts, sweat shirts, polo shirts, and other items can easily be screened or embroidered with any logo.
If a company has employees wearing an embroidered t-shirt with their logo they will have professional looking employees. These same employees will be walking advertisements for the company as soon as they leave work and are seen around town in their company t-shirts.
Jason Argula is a vice-manager for Sun and Surf in Virginia Beach. His company repairs surfboards and he recently decided to buy silk screened printed t-shirts for his two employees. “We’re a pretty small operation and can’t compete with the big guys. We don’t have a big advertising budget and our customers basically hear about us through word of mouth.”
One of Argula’s customers offered to make silk screened t-shirts for him and his employees through his silk screening business. If Argula liked the shirts he could then purchase more from the company.
“We have really been surprised with these shirts. The guys here wear them all the time and people stop them to ask about the company. We have never been about branding but I guess we have become branded by default,” says Argula.
Argula has been surprised by an unplanned benefit of his new silk screened t-shirts. Customers have flooded the store with emails and phone calls wanting to buy the t-shirts for themselves. “Yeah, we seem to be fashionable,” says Argula. “Lots of kids are coming in and wanting to buy the shirts off our backs.”
Just this past month Argula decided to actually sell the silk screened t-shirts in his store.
