Shirt, tie, blazer, slacks. Shirt, scarf, skirt, sweater. These are the well known, and much dreaded school uniform items for many private schools around the nation. But some of these clothing items are disappearing and being replaced with tops and pants that are more comfortable for students.Thankfully, somewhere along the line someone began to see that students would perform better if they were comfortable. Enter the new school uniforms – t-shirts, polo shirts, and khakis. These items can be personalized with the school’s name and logo, are durable and washable, and above all they are comfortable.
Why the big change? Some garment industry experts feel the new school uniforms are a product of public schools getting in on the action. Many public schools are now instituting uniform policies for their students and would have a hard time selling parents on blazers and dress slacks which tend to be expensive. T-shirts, polo shirts, and khakis are much more cost effective.
Kids appear to feel great about the new uniform choices. Schools with uniform policies already in place are seeing student satisfaction rise when uncomfortable clothing is replaced with cotton tees and polo shirts. Schools instituting school uniforms for the first time may face more resistance at first but having something with a low price point that looks good, is durable, and comfortable will eventually make students and parents change their mind.
The biggest selling point for school uniforms? They are easy. Students no longer have to worry what they will be wearing to school when their choices have already been made. There are no longer social class wars over trendy clothing. Moms will love how easy they are to care for and how inexpensive it is to buy a school wardrobe.
As the satisfaction levels with school uniforms rise you can look for more and more schools to put school uniform policies into place.
