The Rocking Uniforms of Stevie Nicks

Wednesday 08th of April 2009 07:10:11 PM
The Rocking Uniforms of Stevie Nicks Stevie Nicks has been rocking the world for many years now. She began singing with Fleetwood Mac in the 1970s and her raspy voice awed rock lovers and hippies. And one thing you could count on was Stevie Nicks wearing her “uniform”. In this case, the uniforms aren’t made of kaki or camouflage. Nicks’ uniform was a gossamer skirt, a t-shirt or chiffon shirt, a shawl, and leather boots. She wore tunics sometimes too.

In a recent March Madison Square Garden concert, where she rejoined Fleetwood Mac, the uniform was still evident. This is true even though Stevie Nicks has been singing for over thirty years, and as her song “Landslide” says, “But time makes you bolder/Children get older/I’m getting older, too.” Of course, she was only 26 when she wrote those words and today she is 60 years old.

It just goes to show that t-shirts, like Nicks’ songs, are ageless. The singer’s ethereal style remains captivating and still inspiring for old and new fans alike. The aging baby boomers find they still have the heart and soul of a rocker in them when they watch Stevie Nicks sway on stage while wearing her just-as-ageless uniform.

Ms. Nicks said developing her uniform was a crutch to help her overcome stage fright when first touring with the band Fleetwood Mac back in the 1970s. She created an urchin look with a raggedy skirt, boots and jacket. And of course there were the plain and printed t-shirts. Her clothes were a mixture of lace, chiffon, velvet, and cotton. Stevie Nicks’ fans are in awe of her and consider the singer to be a true legend. Her singing and fashion style have endured for several decades, and judging by the concert in New York, this gig is far from over.
