An Indian design house, National Institute of Design (NID) believes they have come up with an answer to a very old problem; How to hide your paunch, and still look good. NID believes that fashionable clothes should be available to all, no matter what the body shape, and so created their ‘paunch-proof’ collection.
NID started the project six months ago, and the collection should be ready for retail sale in about four months. “I often observed my friends trying to hide their paunch and struggling to avoid embarrassment,” says Somesh Singh, co-coordinator of apparel designing and merchandising at NID, “I then began observing body structures and types like long torso with short legs or short torso with short hands.” These observations led to his research into overcoming the problems faced by people with a paunch.
“We have re-designed the conventional patterns of men’s wear. We have developed this collection by working on styling, cuts, patterns and fit engineering and innovative detailing,” said Singh.
The collection will include shirts, T-shirts and trousers with innovative fastening techniques, such as horizontal zippers and sliding buttons. Shirts use a flexible seam system and multiple buttons to avoid the cloth collecting around the paunch.
Trousers have flexible waistbands, and use a combination of normal fabrics and heavy-duty fabrics.
The collection also features a lot of accessories such as embroidery to draw the eye away from the paunch. Originally designed in simple woven fabric, the collection has been sent of for registration under the Intellectual Property Rights Act.
Investa, a company that markets lycra fabric has suggested creating the whole collection form lycra, taking advantage of the stretch and comfort of the material.

the chance to review the image is great for checking everything over one last time before printing. the time between reviewing the print and delivery was another positive, taking only a couple of days. my friends were really pleased with the finished items. unfortunately i was out when the courier called. he didn't note the date or time of his attempted delivery on his card and he hadn't filled in when or if he would attempt delivery again. on repeatedly phoning the company on a friday between 4:50 and 6 i got no answer. i then tried again on the monday morning, but once again i got no answer. after phoning clothes2order they resolved everything. i realise this is outwith the control of clothes2order, but it soured an otherwise excellent service.
Delighted with the results. Very popular so repeat orders very likely.
great service, no problems at all
