Women are often stereotyped as being unrelenting shoppers or “shopaholics”. But a new research report indicates you will need to stop stereotyping women because men are quickly becoming as avid shoppers as men. The report reviewed online high street shoppers and the results were published in a report titled, “PayPal UK Online Retail Report”. The survey was completed by Experian. In this report it was discovered that 12.9 million men are regularly shopping online. This number can be compared to the 10.3 million women. In addition, the number of new male shoppers has doubled since 2006. This is a much faster rate of men coming online to purchase items compared to the rate of new women shoppers.
Every year there has been an average of 839,000 new male customers shopping online each year. They also spend more than women once they go online. For the first 6 months of 2009 men spent £2,602 on average. Women spent £1,930.
Carla Scheible is the Managing Director of PayPal UK. She told FashionUnited.com, “The online revolution has turned men into shopaholics. We love the quick and efficient nature of the internet, especially when it comes to buying technology and gadgets. Our impatience has helped drive a revolution in how websites are designed. Gone are the days of elaborate graphics that take an age to load - and drive customers away to better designed sites. Companies like PayPal have also helped by making it quicker to checkout and pay online - in many cases, in just a few mouse clicks.“
Men and women are shopping online more for everything from computers to work uniforms. It appears that this trend will continue too with four out of ten shopping men planning to use the internet as much as possible for future purchases. The internet stores offer many great bargains and shopping deals.
