Many businesses require their employees to wear uniforms to work each day. That means there are a lot of uniforms that one day have to be retired or recycled. Sometimes a company decides to change logos and that means old shirts must be replaced with new shirts with the updated logo.A company in Chicago in the United States found a new way to make use of those shirts. PLS Financial Services has offered its staff a credit that can be used in towards an updated logo shirt to encourage employees to turn in their old shirts. The old shirts are then donated to the local animal shelter.
Why would an animal shelter want shirts? There’s a good reason. The shirts are turned into animal bedding. The donating company first removes the logo on the promotional clothing before turning the shirts over to the animal shelter. The President of PLS is Bob Wolfberg. He is proud of the fact that his company has found a way to help a local charity while also benefitting his own business.
PLS is a large company that owns 300 financial service centers around the U.S. This move is greatly appreciated by the animal shelter company. In these tight economic times, it benefits everyone when organizations working together towards recycling efforts and keeping serviceable products in use. The emphasis on “green” living and corporate responsibility is leading to innovative ideas. This new partnership between PLS and the animal control shelter is just one example of ways businesses are successfully living green.
These kinds of mutually beneficial cooperative efforts are win-win. There are really not that many things in life that can make that claim. Next time you are thinking of throwing away your old clothing, perhaps you need to be thinking more green. Someone just may be able to breathe a second life into it.
