The global recession is taking a toll on many clothing and general merchandise retailers, and recent failures have made it clear many companies are at risk. Giant retailers including Woolworths and the popular menswear shops called Officers Clubs went into insolvency early in the recession. Retail chains like Woolworth's that have offered discount clothing and household goods will be missed by consumers seeking bargains. That is why many people are turning to the internet to find clothing bargains such as inexpensive school uniforms and cheap but qualityprinted t-shirts. As local retail stores continue to succumb to the dire economic conditions, finding reliable sources for bargain priced clothing will often mean searching the internet. A spokeswoman for the company, Ginette Gisborne, said, "We don't know whether the stores will close or some stores might be sold."
